Title: flat clear coat
Post by: nmroberto on September 03, 2016, 08:15:50 AM
I know I saw a thread on this subject here, but I can't find it now.

What is the best clear coat to use if I want a very flat or dead flat finish?

I am using Tamiya's acrylic flat clear, works like a charm for me :)

I use Testor's Dullcote for a really flat finish but lately have found that Vallejo's Polyurethane Matt Varnish # 26.651 works just as well and is compatible with decals and lacquer, enamel, and acrylic base coats. It's a great product and thinned with their # 71.161 Airbrush Thinner sprays beautifully at about 20 psi on the Airbrush.
Cheers,
Lance

testors dullcote for me but spray in very thin coats and allow dry time.spray too wet and you get an eggshell finish instead of dead flat and also if you spray over decals make sure you spray a few light coats allowing for drying or any laquer will eat decals.

Just be sure to keep the Testors stuff warm.  If it gets cold it turns white.  Keep it in your pocket before you spray.....
