Title: Any news on the new Eduard SE5a kit?
Post by: Dave W on August 09, 2016, 10:45:25 AM
Has anyone heard an update on the status of the new tool Eduard SE5a kit? It was supposed to be their 2016 kit to mark the 100th anniversary of WW1 but apart from some renders on Facebook there's not a word on its status or likely release date.

Eduard had indicated a plan to issue a new WW1 subject for each of the 100th anniversary years and we got the Siemens Schuckert last year, then...silence.

Roden's 1/48th SE5a is a delightful kit but I expect the Eduard one to be better.

Any news or updates would be welcome.

Hi Dave,

on a local czech forum there is a discussion thread with Vladimir Sulc, the owner of Eduard. The latest info on new kits is that the S.E.5a should follow after their Bf 109 G6/G5 and Bf 109 F. That should mean by the end of 2016 or by the beginning of 2017.

Cheers

Thanks for the update Ondra. Much appreciated.

I'm surprised Eduard has not been more public in its SE5a development news. Considering the company was built on WW1 subjects they seem almost disinterested in them now.

Fact is, Wingnuts is strictly 1/32 and not everybody wants 1/32 scale. The 1/48th market is still enormous. Its great to see companies like Copper State Models doing new subjects on 1/48. They can now show Eduard and the others how to do it  :)

I certainly hope they do produce a new tool SE5a in 1/48 and then follow it up with  an RE8

The S.E.a will definitely be a new tool kit.

The following new kits from Eduard will be mainly WWII subjects, but there is a Fokker D.VII in 1/72 most probably coming somewhere in 2017.

As Mr. Sulc mentioned, the Sopwith Camel is on his personal wishlist for new kits, no further details published, however. This can mean the work on the project basically has not started yet.

No signs of a Harry Tate in 1/48 so far, sorry to say that.

I'm not interested in that scale or that subject, I guess they won't be getting my money.....

Well then you have wnw don't you zavod44. There is still a lot of 1/48  and 1/72 for that matter and we have been neglected for 5 years. Eduard does do 1/32 seatbelts, stitching, turnbuckles, spandau ,Vickers, Lewis and parabellum as well as gauges and detail sets for albatros pfalz and fokker so maybe you can get aftermarket items from them. 1/48 needs new kits.

From memory, when I was talking with someone from Eduard last year at Telford they mentioned either June or July (I forget which) as the target for release. I have been surprised at the lack of news and hints. Maybe we're now looking at an autumn release. My fingers are still crossed that we see one, nice though the Roden versions are.

Best wishes
Nigel

I don't want any aftermarket from Eduard in 1/32.  I just figured when WNW announces something new a bunch of people chime in and say they aren't interested and wouldn't buy it.  I just thought I would do the same with this.  I wanted to fit in with those guys.....Truly I couldn't care less about this subject or scale....

Hi ondra,
great to hear that you have connections to Eduard. Do you know if they definitely dropped their plans to release every year of the WWI centenary a new WWI kit? Would be really sad and I hoped, the delay of the Se5a is just caused by the reworking of the Bf109...

Not interested in the Se5 , but it would be nice to see the main steam manufactures come up with a bit more than what have been . Copper State seems to be the only one with continuous releases , some nice ones at that ! The last WW 1 I bought was 4 years ago now .

Hi Borsos,

I do not really have connections to Eduard, the whole story is that there is a czech modellers' forum, where Mr. Sulc has one thread for discussion with modellers, answering their questions and collecting ideas directly from the customers (great idea btw., if you ask me, and it is highly appreciated by czech modellers).

There were no new comments from Mr. Sulc on the topic of releasing a new WWI kit every year of the WWI centenary, so I do not really know. In September there will be an exposition in Prague, which is the biggest event in CZ, where Eduard present their products and share their news, perhaps we will learn more on that occasion. Should I get any news, I will post them here.

Cheers

I really, really, really hope Eduard is still planning the 1/72 D.VII. They would do it so well if made to their usual high standard in that scale. If they could turn their minds to an Albatros D.III I would be a very happy modeller.

Aviatik Berg or Hansa Brandenburg D.I in any scale would be great.

They didn't say much at the IPMS Nationals, but there was a 1/48 Scratch built Halberstadt D-II that took a 1st, and Eduard long ago had art work for the same thing ????

Hm, I'd prefer a Halberstadt D II in 1/32 scale. I think the Blue Max kit is quite fine...

It was rumored years ago that Eduard was going to release a halberstadt d.v which looks similar to a d.ii with a diff engine and 2 spandaus .

Yes, now I remember that.
The upper wing cutout is round on the D V, otherwise it's the same airframe like the D II. The Spandaus on the D V were both on one side, I think, as the "upweaponed" D II of Jasta 4 were.
Luckily the Se5a seem to be more than rumours

Well, WNW has both the Mercedes D.II engine and the Argus III.  The difference between the Halberstadt DII and DIII is the motor.  (possible error, not sure if Halberstadt DIII had an earlier Argus motor in it....)

On that line of thought, a Maybach engine would make for an easy transition of the Rumpler C.IV to a Rub
ild C.VII......

lol what does any of that have to do with eduards upcoming 1/48 releases?
Title: Re: Any news on the new Eduard SE5a kit?

What I was getting at was that the Halberstadt DII and DIII could be spawned from the same kit with different engine sprues.  Nothing more, cept a Maybach engine would give us one more Rumpler variation....

its cool captain slower, i was reading the other posts and then there was talk of wnw engine sprues which wouldnt fit the 1/48 halberstadt the the maybach (from wnw gotha)and rubild conversion of the wnw rumpler. i meant no harm though i just thought it was funny.

Hi everybody,

as promised, here the up-date on Eduard's S.E.5a. Today I talked to one Eduard guy at a local contest, who told me that there would be two versions (Viper and Hisso), whereas the Viper version would be released in January 2017. There was even a slideshow with 3D renders and the preview looked pretty good (even so good that I got tempted to break my own rules and to build something else than a 1/144 scratch...).

Cheers
