If you are interested in reading about ww1 I could recommend the novel War and Turpentine written by Stefan Hertmans. It is a story about his grandfather who lived through ww1 as a Belgian soldier. It takes an interesting perspective, not just about ww1 itself, but is also an interesting account of living in Belgium before ww1 and after. The pieces about ww1 itself, how Belgium was defended and overrun and afterwards life in the trenches in western Flanders are impressive.

Sounds very interesting. After a short research i can say that in German translation this novel is called "Der Himmel meines Großvaters".
I'll read that book!
Thank you
