Friends,
i don't have Kilduff's "Black Fokker Leader" on hand atm and can't find this piece of information over at the 'drome.
I know that Degelow scored his first Luftsieg in a Fokker D.VII on 25.06.1918. Is there some information available as to when the Jagdstaffel received their Fokkers as replacements for their Pfalz D.IIIa's?

Stefan,
Quote from Pg.106, "Black Fokker Leader":
"in any event, on the fine summer day of 25 June 1918, I brought my new Fokker D.VII back to our airfield(then at Lomme, at the western edge of Lille)"
Degelow then goes on to describe his victory over Lt. Jones-Lloyd of 54 Squadron in a Sopwith camel later that same day, the event you refer to. The way I read the passage it appears that Degelow got the first D.VII assigned to Jasta 40.
Cheers,

Lance,
thank you for pointing ths out. As he seems to have gotten the first Fokker (although he was not Staffelführer at that time), everyone else in JaSta 40s received their respective ones after that date.
Happy with that.

Stefan,
The change over to Fokker D.VII's appears to have been gradual, the book referring to mixed formations of Pfalz D.IIIa's and Fokkers well into July. Dilthey was lost on 9 July and Degelow took command at that point. It's too bad that so many records were lost over the years; so much is now "guess work"!
Cheers,

And I believe there was an Albatros D.V in the mix that summer as well.
