Hi all,
After a year or so waiting on a shelf, I managed to finish this belgian Nieuport 23. It represents the machine flown by the Sub/Lt. Edmund Thieffry, an ace with ten victories.
The initial idea was to build the kit out of the box as a quick build, as I hadn't finished anything in a while. but I couldn't resist the temptation and made some corrections to the kit:
- Detailed cockpit (instruments, scratchbuilt control column, wires, etc)
- Scratchbuilt propeller.
- Thinned down and detailed cowling
- Replaced carburetors air intakes.
- scratchbuilt the Vickers Machine gun and the ammo case.
- Thinned down landing gear struts.
- Added rivets to the wheels
- Detailed tail skid.
Paint is a mix of Model Master Aluminium Plate and Alclad Airframe Aluminium for cowling. The upper surfaces were painted with a mix of Gunze Olive Drab and RAF Dark Green. All the markings were painted.
I must admit it was a long, but very pleasant build. Hope you like it!

Very nicely done Nieuport! This one is my favorite Belgian Nieuport scheme! Great to see you post a model here,

Xan, here are some photos of the detailed parts:
I forgot to mention that (apart thinning down) I added the fittings to the landing gear struts.

I made resin copies of all the detailed parts. I have several Nieuports in the "to do" pile....
