Well another start. Another dream of finishing. Doing an early AEG G.IV with the cam and have been plodding on with the cockpit for the past few weeks. I'm hoping I am close to where I can button it up and start working on the engines. Made a small mistake (read HUGE Mistake) on one decals and for who know what reason I put it in the wrong spot. So trying to paint it into the proper spot. Hopefully wont be too obvious.

I got hold of some thin platic sheet and made the seat frame. Used my Japanese hole punch for the first time and love it. Now just to do the seat in leather. stains at fuel tank and pin wash applied.

Looking good! Think carefully about that 'seat frame' - it isn't visible in any contemporary crash photos so was probably covered over in leather / not visible, and I'm suspicious that what is visible on the survivor is the result of staining / fading.
Thanks. I was only doing at the Windsock guids has it and yes I will paint it leather. I could see a seat frame that had litening holes, byt I am suspicious about them being so visable under the leather. I wanted to try making a tape transfer and this seemed like a good place to experiment. It also gave me a chance to play with my Japanese hole punch and I have to say I love it.
Appreciate the thoughts and comments.

That's looking very nice, James, the staining on the fuel tanks and the panel details are "top drawer"! Is the scheme with Cam you mention one of the Box options??
Cheers,
Lance
-
Thanks Lance. Yes it will be the first one, scheme A. Or at least I hope this will end up like that lol.

You are making excellent headway with this build James, what you have achieved so far is looking excellent.

Hi James,
a good start!
Looking forward to see more. :D

Nice start James,
I keep meaning to get some kind of hole punch.. Was it expensive?

Thanks everyone. Need to get down in the basement tonight so I can paint some more stuff ready to assemble tomorrow. I appreciate all the positivity :)

James,
Wow she's coming along outstandingly well my old friend. Keep up the Great works!

Splendid job on one of my all time favourites!

Thanks everyone :)
Small update. The front and back parts of the instrument panels are finished I think. Also some bombs added to nose and control column added. I detached the spare control stick and drilled out the mounting socket.

Great progress so far - I'm quite interested to follow your build.

excellent job I like it

Sorry, not much of an update but between work, pain, this, and a 2P19 Scud I am not accomplishing much. One side wall on and hopefully when I get home from work tonight I can get the cross bracing done and seat belts on and second wall finished. Then I can see if there is anything else before I do the fuselage and start painting.

James,
I see you've decided to build the heavy duty 'tracked' version ;)

Micely done interior to date! I especially like the seat!
RAGIII
-
Excellent work, James! I really like the staining on the fuel tanks and of
course the leather seat. Really good progress, my friend.
Cheers,
Ernie :)
-
Thanks guys. Yes this is the little know tracked version for muddy airfields. The Russians got the only surviving model and took the technology for the tracks to use on a much later IS chassis tank saving countless hours of research and development lol :)
Its funny, everyone I've shown the seat to likes it while I'm not thrilled with it at all. I used Scale 75 leather and wood set for it. I think its kind of flat but will leave it. By the way I found that the ecru shade looks pretty darned good as seatbelt colour.
Again thanks for the encouragement and hoefully I will have more to show in a couple of days.
James
-
That seat really looks the part James, and the earlier shots of the instrument panel are nicely done. I'm amazed again at how large this beast is, the taped together views with the local Newspaper really jump out at you! Have you got a scheme in mind yet? With this morning's unseasonal "dump" of snow, still in progress, you should get a really long bench session in on her today! ::) :-\
Cheers,
Lance
-
Interior looks great, and I will echo the others that your leather seat looks like leather. Well done.
Chris
-
Again thanks. Lance I am doing the first scheme on this one. Unfortunately I'm at work today and seeing as I'm encasing wire bundles in snake skin I'm not thinking any modeling will get done tonight. The roads are really bad so if you go out be carefull. Ahh 3 hours down and 8 to go. :(
James
-
Excellent start, James! Really looking forward to following this one.
Cheers,
Bud

James, your AEG is looking good.
It is nice to see someone else tackling this subject, as not many are being shown online so far.
There are a couple of nice builds on the WNW site.
It is great to see an early version too. The model goes together quite quickly and the build is very straightforward.
As an aside,
Have you got a copy of the Windsock AEG special as a reference?
There are some good building tips inside along with some great archive pictures. Ray did a really good job with this special, and it is an interesting read, including the forward by Sir Peter Jackson himself.

You are making excellent progress with this build James and what you have achieved so far is looking really good.
Des.

Thank you everyone. Dave, yes I have both of the Windsock refs and am using them quite a bit.
James

Very fine work James.
Cheers

Thank you.
A little done today. Cockpit tub is almost done and then I loosely fit it all together in the fuse. Its kind of dismaying how little will show. I'm trying to decide if I should use the excellent Aviattic linen in the aft of the fuselage or just weather the base I have now seeing as so little will be seen. But I know its there so thinking I should just go for it. Seat belts need a bit more work and then firmly attaching.

You have done a superb job with the build so far, looking forward to seeing more.
Des.

Looking superb! Yes, only the Kanzel and rear gunner positions can be easily seen once the top wing is on, but half the fun is in the building, so I'd keep on detailing :)
+1 & you probably know how I feel about these things :)
-
Good for you continuing the detailing James. It is rewarding and besides you
and your fellow forumites know it's there. ;) ;D The build is looking really
good and is very well done, my friend.
Cheers,
Ernie :)
-
As you say James, you know it's there! Nicely done, and stay the course, you'll be happier in the end result!
Cheers,
Lance

Looks fantastic! We are certainly enjoying the work you have put into that interior, even if its days of fresh air are limited.
Chris
-
Thanks everyone. And Bo I wish I had the talent to 1/10 of what you do, but I keep trying based on your example. So tonight is cutting out decals and starting to work on the aft fuse :)
James
-
Looking great! Using the linen decals will certainly make the unseen portion of the interior Pop! We will all know what you did 8)
RAGIII

Almost ready to button up. Just finishing the cross bracing and some more weathering and I can join the fuse. The rigging isn't great but it wi;; be almost impossible to see so no big issue. I made a mistake and put cloth for the top of the fuselage when it should be wood. I decided to carry on anyways.

I think everything else is ready to start gluing. I have to find some paint to do the inside of the glass though.
James
-
Really good progress, James. The interior is gorgeous and a shame as is often
the case when all that good stuff disappears. Great job, my friend.
Cheers,
Ernie :)

Great stuff James. Looking forward to seeing the tracks go on ;D

Awesome work James! Great interior and I am looking forward to the next step!
