Title: Do you remember these?
Post by: Des on February 09, 2016, 10:33:10 AM
It seems so long ago now when Wingnuts advertised these resin figures, at least 4 years, and still listed as in development, they must be doing a hell of a lot of fine tuning on these figures, it would be nice to see them actually come to fruition instead of being just an unfilled promise.

Yeah.  I wonder what happened to them.
Cheers,

It really doesn't make sense that they aren't available by now. These photos show finished, painted figures. The hard work has been done. I guess they've given up on them. :(

It is possible they are in the private collection of Peter Jackson. I seem to remember that the Perry twins who make figures for Games Workshop and have their own line of historical figures, were commissioned by Jackson to make him a bunch of WWI figures I believe in 1/32 scale. I recall that the few pictures I saw were ground troops though, just a theory.

I had exactly the same thought....
yesterday I received the Gotha crew from Copper State Models and they are superlative: well sculpted and with very realistic poses.
it would be great if CSM makes the series adverized from WNW.
CSM crew is high quality, unlike some other figures that have been shamelessly  put on the market lately.

It's a pity those resin figures are still not available - I doubt they ever will.

I think they will eventually be released.
The other day I mailed with WNW about the Fokker D.VII range (the fact that they sold out as a group very, very quickly and expressing the hope that they would do a second run).
The aswer was that they would be released someday as a limited edition with extra photo eych parts.... now that is a promise about as old as the figurines promise, but one thay intend to keek. So maybe these figures will be released as well (or as a combo with the limited editions..)
I personally hope they skip the limited versions, by the way. I no not think that would make it a better model (you can have extra photo etch if you want, yhe HGW sets are great) but the base price of the kits will be a lot higher then they are now and they will be released after the free shipping has ended for sure.
Yes, it would be a great chance to get some of the kits that are sold out at the moment, but I hope I can afford them then..

Could it be that WNW's were not happy with these figures?
Who is to say that they're not working on a new set, especially with the rise of 3D printing and it's use for forming complex masters.

I predict some magic figures coming out of the WNW camp. Hopefully sooner rather than later.

Small company, very small.

They've decided to concentrate on kits. Even their decal development seems to have been dialed back a bit.

Sir Peter wants kits, so that's what we get. I'm not sure the figures would sell that well anyway? 90% of the modelers I know avoid figures anyway, as they are difficult to paint compared to an aeroplane.

I think they should just leave those to King and Country or Brittans to do them.  They look a little toy soldierish anyhow.....They should just keep concentrating on the kits in my opinion....maybe they figure (no pun intended) that they need to concentrate on what's doing well, to break into another market it could be too much of a drain on the finances if it's not popular.  I for one wouldn't buy those...they look like toys next to the finest model kits on earth, it would be a strange mix....Toy soldiers on weird bases next to a fine scale model, just doesn't mix.  Just my opinion I could be totally wrong

When first announced I was as eager to see these figures as I was the Newest WNW kit.. Well almost  ::) That being said other companies and small artists have filled the void nicely, IMHO. Model Cellar, Kellerkind, Elan 13, Wings Cockpit Figures, Tommys War, our own Aviattic, and  Copper State Models, to name some. So in the end we are getting figures to enhance our models in a variety of poses and in most cases of very good quality. I therefore am not as anxious to see these releases as I once was. Makes me wonder how different things would be if another Model Company had chosen to compete with WNW instead of everyone backing away and leaving the field to the WNW team? Just my thoughts of course.

I suppose this thread is mostly about the figures... and yes, it's a great disappointment that WNW never produced any of the "Coming soon" figures - many years later too! I think this also put a damper (for a few years) on other model companies producing 1/32 figures - after the fantastic kits the figures were sure to be good and why would you want your new range to be trumped by WNW? After all, when we got the first glimpse of the Gotha at a show in NZ the figures were there... and looked good... from a distance. But slowly the other manufacturers, especially the resin crowd have produced really great figures - my hat off to them. WNW is also moving slower, I don't see the figures coming soon... As for competing model companies in 1/32, notice the resin kits are becoming available again... give it time, other manufacturers will arrive with injection moulded kits... if Eduard re-scaled their DVII to 1/32 I would buy plenty... The WNW DVII is great, but has it's complexity problems, and as we've heard will probably move seriously upmarket...

Just some thoughts...

All the Best,

Marc

It would be great if Dragon scales its DVII up  to 1/32

Out of the kits they made I think the DVII would be the least desirable to scale up. The shape issues alone would make it less than desirable, at least to me.  As much as we lament the WNW DVII being Sold Out I think it would be near suicidal for a company to mold a 1/32nd kit to compete. All WNW would need to do is reissue theirs and the Competing model would probably die a horrible death. That being said, the EV/DVIII would be a winner with suitable detail changes, in particular the struts and interior. As for the figures by WNW, like I said, I think they would be nice to see but it is no longer the critical issue it once was.
JMHO.

... but it looks as if THESE were available: http://www.wingnutwings.com/ww/4F61C515F9CCDF74CF6A55E11607A9EC (Nothing of any interest for me, though.)

The 'Little Contemptibles' have been available for quite some time, pity same can't be said about the resin figures. I doubt we will ever see the figures come to light, they are looking very dated now.

If I model a kit with a pilot figure, the first thing I do is removed the pilot and stick him with the rest of the pilots, in a "pilots" drawer.

Personally, I find figures detract from a model, purely because they never, ever look as realistic as the model.

And, of course, my skills are nowhere near good enough to paint 'em!

So I don't mind if they are quietly dropped altogether, especially a they are using the resources to put a BE2 together.

Probably.

But then again, we are still waiting a decent Hurricane in 1/32, so importance doesn't seem to matter than much  - at least until Fly release theirs.

I agree, for me figures just kill the illusion. With few exceptions even the best painted figures look dead and stiff. Although I can think of a few guys here who have managed to pull it off, but usually in the tiny scales.
