All,
I know I have not been overly active on the forum recently. This has been due to being in and out of work (now finally resolved) over last two years; a bit of lost modelling mojo; widened my modelling genre and finally building Airfix's 1/24 Typhoon which took a few months to knock out.
As to this one, this is a very dated, poorly molded (tons of flash) kit that was built mostly OOB with some basic detailing/alterations/additions here and there. Two great things with these Smer kits is low cost and really good decals. I've been running this one in parallel with a WNW Sopwith Triplane which I'm about half way through now.
This was a nice, enjoyable straightforward build - the only difficult part is getting the top wing on. Overall, quite pleased with the outcome but I did manage to spoil the wood effect painting on fuselage a bit.
Hope it generally looks right!
Regards
Dave

You have truly done an outstanding job on this old and crude kit! Brilliant work!

Looks great, very nicely done!

That looks like a WNW kit - the paint finish is just superb. Where is the spoiled wood on the fuselage? I think that a blind man would like to see it.
Many congratulations on an excellent build.
Stephen.

The proverbial silk purse, Dave! She's absolutely gorgeous and has caused me to pull my Fly kit out of the stash and start plans for building it.
Cheers,

Many thanks, gentleman -
Not been a good couple of years with my work but all seems to be going well in this direction now.
I ran this one in conjunction with my WNW Sopwith Tripe so will be able to show this one once complete - I then have the 1/24 Merit SE5a kit to tackle ................

Nice to see you back and active again Dave, and you certainly have not lost your touch! The Ansaldo is a real eye catcher, great paint and decals. Looking forward to seeing your Tripe.

Toby,
One thing you may not know about Daves builds is that he DOES NOT use an Airbrush. All is hand painted... Unless he has changed his Technique, which is doubtful considering the beautiful results he always achieves on his models!

Thank you, mate -
Yes, I still brush paint - I doubt I will ever use an airbrush now as I'm so used to doing it this way now. Besides, at almost 52 I think I am getting very set in my ways!!!!

Dave
PS - Toby - thank you for your kind words

I really like it! You have managed to turn an extremely crude kit into a really nice looking model.

I saw this model yesterday at our club meeting. I used a 150watt spotlight and a magnifying glass (x 15 magnification) and searched for the marred paintwork that Dave mentions in his notes. Well I did find it - eventually, and have to say that a blind man would like to see it!
That is a lovely impeccably finished little model - a real silk purse form a sow's ear. And remember it is hand painted - better than many spray jobs that I have seen
Stephen.
