Hi everybody
I start a new build
this is the PFALZ DIIIa by Wingnut Wings
here is the box
(http://img15.hostingpics.net/pics/6197001.jpg) (http://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php?id=6197001.jpg)
the camo will be the picture in the box
I take also the taurus model set
(http://img15.hostingpics.net/pics/3056962.jpg) (http://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php?id=3056962.jpg)
and I try the rigging turnbuckles and the seatbels by RB production
(http://img15.hostingpics.net/pics/9469113.jpg) (http://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php?id=9469113.jpg)
and I have a question
if I take the windsock datafile I see some ribs on the tailplane
(http://img15.hostingpics.net/pics/594484586.jpg) (http://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php?id=594484586.jpg)
but on the parts there is nothing
(http://img15.hostingpics.net/pics/4023894.jpg) (http://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php?id=4023894.jpg)
(http://img15.hostingpics.net/pics/8006955.jpg) (http://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php?id=8006955.jpg)
is WW missing something or not
I take this part from aviattic to make ribs
(http://img15.hostingpics.net/pics/402020DSCN0106.jpg) (http://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php?id=402020DSCN0106.jpg)
is it ok to make the missing ribs
thank to you
-
Moustique,
Looking forward to this promising thread my old friend. I believe I need to find a use for those beautiful PE Ribtapes you showed. Best of luck with your latest.
Highest Regards,
Gregory Jouette

I am also looking forward to your build! I went to the WNW site and looked at the archive photos. The very first photo would lead me to say NO. Yet there are some that are a maybe :o
RAGIII

Moustique,
The Windsock Data File indicates that the stabilator was plywood/veneer covered like the fuselage and the elevator was fabric covered. I just did a quick check of the photos and between that Data File and two others on the DIII Version I can't find one photo that shows a rib or tape visible on the elevator. I built mine without for that reason. Hope this is of some help.
Cheers,
Lance
-
My all time favorite aircraft so you have my attention on this build .
No , there are no rib tapes on the control surfaces , WNW got it right with that . But they are short on the on the ribs themselves on the tail feathers by one . Read Ray Rimmels build review on this kit if you are able to get it . Full of useful tips and info . It's not very noticeable though .
Terri
-
ok thank all for these precisions
I keep these photoetched ribs for a future siemens schuckert
Terri where I can find the review by Ray Rimmels
-
Looking forward to following this project, Moustique! By the way, where did you find those rib tapes? I looked on both the Aviattic and Pheon sites and couldn't locate them.
Cheers,
Bud

Hi
a little update
I begin by the cockpit with wooden effect
(http://img15.hostingpics.net/pics/6068378.jpg) (http://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php?id=6068378.jpg)
so I build a cushion with milliput
(http://img15.hostingpics.net/pics/26841110.jpg) (http://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php?id=26841110.jpg)
(http://img15.hostingpics.net/pics/27944611.jpg) (http://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php?id=27944611.jpg)
and I paint the inside of fuselage and wash it with panel line brown
(http://img15.hostingpics.net/pics/39610916.jpg) (http://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php?id=39610916.jpg)
for the seat belts I don't use the set by RB productions cause I don't like it so I use the pieces of the kit
(http://img15.hostingpics.net/pics/60911917.jpg) (http://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php?id=60911917.jpg)
-
Brilliant update.
Cheers

(http://img15.hostingpics.net/pics/93935323.jpg) (http://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php?id=93935323.jpg)
I've also paint and clear the lower wing this week end and I have a question
if you follow the instructions the decals must be put down vertically to have the good scheme
my questions is
for covering the wing the decal must be cut in many sections?
is the cut must be done diagonally?
thank for yours answers
-
First I must say your interior is looking great! Beautiful work!. I am not sure if I understand your question about the decals. Are you using Lozenge? If so is it Aviattic or kit? If Aviattic is it the 5 color joined? or the Cookie cutter?. The short answer is that cuts on any of these should be vertical along ribs. No diagonal joins were used on the Pfalz DIIIa. IHTH,
RAGIII
-
thank Rick
even if you haven't understand my question
you give me the good answer ;)
I use the décals 'kit and I see there was a cut line on the notice and this line is vertical
thank for your answer and comments
-
Great work on the interior, Moustique!
Cheers,
Bud
-
thank Bud
I have paint the interior with XF76 tamiya and give a little wash with panel line brown
(http://img15.hostingpics.net/pics/39610916.jpg) (http://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php?id=39610916.jpg)
finally I buy eyelets from Bob's Buckles
(http://img15.hostingpics.net/pics/42861124.jpg) (http://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php?id=42861124.jpg)
(http://img15.hostingpics.net/pics/97836725.jpg) (http://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php?id=97836725.jpg)
(http://img15.hostingpics.net/pics/39554926.jpg) (http://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php?id=39554926.jpg)
and then I paint the upper wing
at first in XF16 then preshade in black
and the final color is that preconise in wingnut wings notice
2 parts xf16 and 1 part x19
here is the result
(http://img15.hostingpics.net/pics/4684266327.jpg) (http://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php?id=4684266327.jpg)

Excellent job with the wing painting and shading, the interior work is extremely well done also.

thank you Martin
thank you Des
I was a little disapointed cause I had a problem and I don't know why
here is my painted wings
(http://img15.hostingpics.net/pics/4684266327.jpg) (http://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php?id=4684266327.jpg)
after decalling and with a clear mat here is the result
(http://img15.hostingpics.net/pics/2504192229.jpg) (http://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php?id=2504192229.jpg)
(http://img15.hostingpics.net/pics/1120625830.jpg) (http://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php?id=1120625830.jpg)
it became very dark WHY??
I use the same products that I use on my hansa klear before decalling and mat varnish by tamiya
what do you think about that
-
Perhaps it is the glossy finish and fresh look of the decals? At any rate terrific progress,. I am sure you will sort things out to your satisfaction.
RAGIII
-
I don't know Rick ant thank to your comment
I really appreciate
before finding a solution fot my wing a little update
first I cut the spring to teplace them by the parts of taurus model
(http://img15.hostingpics.net/pics/5779097.jpg) (http://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php?id=5779097.jpg)
(http://img15.hostingpics.net/pics/7255749.jpg) (http://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php?id=7255749.jpg)
is the only add to the engine the rest is strictly from the box with a little wash

Martin

Gorgeous engine, Moustique!
Cheers,
Bud

Beautiful work on the engine. I'm not sure why Tamiya overcoat would darken the shading. Still looks great, though.

I agree with Bud! If you are leaving the engine covers on the springs are the one thing that will be noticed.

I was saying that it is good that you detailed the springs as they are very noticeable even with the engine covers on. Excellent work on your engine :D
RAGIII
-
ah ok thank you very much Rick ;)
-
Great work on the engine, what paint did you use for the radiator hose?
Cheers
Pete.
-
Wow! The engine is absolutely superb.
-
thank you Pete
if it's the part that I think I've painted it with tamiya nato black
thank Toby for your comments
another view of the engine
(http://img15.hostingpics.net/pics/8792924538.jpg) (http://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php?id=8792924538.jpg)
so after my problem with the wing I've decide to repaint them
masking décals and one spray of the misc of silver and smoke
the wings became less darker
(http://img15.hostingpics.net/pics/7595749239.jpg) (http://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php?id=7595749239.jpg)
(http://img15.hostingpics.net/pics/8254941940.jpg) (http://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php?id=8254941940.jpg)
for me the result is acceptable
I put the décals on the lower wing
I use wingnut wings décals and it was not very easy to put
I use my méthod a combination of tamiya thinner X20A and hair dryer
(http://img15.hostingpics.net/pics/8850688241.jpg) (http://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php?id=8850688241.jpg)
(http://img15.hostingpics.net/pics/1929009642.jpg) (http://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php?id=1929009642.jpg)
I found this decals "too fresh" but I don't know the méthod to "old" them it's the first time for me
can anyone give me a method (ink, oil paint etc...)
thank
-
Nice save on the wings! The shading looks much better now! As for aging the lozenge try spraying a thin coat of beige/tan over them. You can then do your rib shading using your preferred method. I would suggest practicing the overspray with some spare lozenge applied to sheet styrene or an old wing. I hope this helps,
RAGIII
-
thank Rick for your suggestion
I will practice on a sheet of styrène it's better ;)
-
Very good update.
Cheers
Martin
-
thank Martin ;)
-
hi
I try a method to "old" lozenge on the lower wing
at first I spray tamiya smoke along the ribs
and after I spray some brown ink on the décals
I use schmincke aerocolor for that
on the right only decals and on the left with ink
(http://img15.hostingpics.net/pics/38032451.jpg) (http://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php?id=38032451.jpg)
the wing finished
(http://img15.hostingpics.net/pics/1892763952.jpg) (http://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php?id=1892763952.jpg)
(http://img15.hostingpics.net/pics/5505226253.jpg) (http://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php?id=5505226253.jpg)
I have prepared the rigging with bob's buckles eyelet
