Title: Pfalz DIII a WW
Post by: moustique on January 20, 2016, 07:00:11 PM
Hi everybody
I start a new build
this is the PFALZ DIIIa by Wingnut Wings

here is the box

Quote
(http://img15.hostingpics.net/pics/6197001.jpg) (http://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php?id=6197001.jpg)

the camo will be the picture in the box

I take  also the taurus model set

Quote
(http://img15.hostingpics.net/pics/3056962.jpg) (http://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php?id=3056962.jpg)

and I try the rigging turnbuckles and the seatbels by RB production

Quote
(http://img15.hostingpics.net/pics/9469113.jpg) (http://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php?id=9469113.jpg)

and I have a question

if I take the windsock datafile I see some ribs on the tailplane

Quote
(http://img15.hostingpics.net/pics/594484586.jpg) (http://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php?id=594484586.jpg)

but on the parts there is nothing

Quote
(http://img15.hostingpics.net/pics/4023894.jpg) (http://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php?id=4023894.jpg)

Quote
(http://img15.hostingpics.net/pics/8006955.jpg) (http://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php?id=8006955.jpg)

is WW missing something or not

I take this part from aviattic to make ribs

Quote
(http://img15.hostingpics.net/pics/402020DSCN0106.jpg) (http://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php?id=402020DSCN0106.jpg)

is it ok to make the missing ribs

thank to you

 Moustique,
Looking forward to this promising thread my old friend. I believe I need to find a use for those beautiful PE Ribtapes you showed. Best of luck with your latest.

I am also looking forward to your build! I went to the WNW site and looked at the archive photos. The very first photo would lead me to say NO. Yet there are some that are a maybe  :o

Moustique,
The Windsock Data File indicates that the stabilator was plywood/veneer covered like the fuselage and the elevator was fabric covered. I just did a quick check of the photos and between that Data File and two others on the DIII Version I can't find one photo that shows a rib or tape visible on the elevator. I built mine without for that reason. Hope this is of some help.
Cheers,
Lance

My all time favorite aircraft so you have my attention on this build .

No , there are no rib tapes on the control surfaces , WNW got it right with that . But they are short on the on the ribs themselves on the tail feathers by one . Read Ray Rimmels build  review on this kit if you are able to get it . Full of useful tips and info . It's not very noticeable though .

Looking forward to following this project, Moustique!  By the way, where did you find those rib tapes?  I looked on both the Aviattic and Pheon sites and couldn't locate them.
Cheers,
Bud

Hi
a little update
I begin by the cockpit with wooden effect

Quote
(http://img15.hostingpics.net/pics/6068378.jpg) (http://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php?id=6068378.jpg)

so I build a cushion with milliput

Quote
(http://img15.hostingpics.net/pics/26841110.jpg) (http://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php?id=26841110.jpg)

Quote
(http://img15.hostingpics.net/pics/27944611.jpg) (http://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php?id=27944611.jpg)

and I paint the inside of fuselage and wash it with panel line brown

Quote
(http://img15.hostingpics.net/pics/39610916.jpg) (http://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php?id=39610916.jpg)

for the seat belts I don't use the set by RB productions cause I don't like it so I use the pieces of the kit

I've also paint and clear the lower wing this week end and I have a question

if you follow the instructions the decals must be put down vertically to have the good scheme

my questions is
for covering the wing the decal must be cut in many sections?

is the cut must be done diagonally?

thank for yours answers

First I must say your interior is looking great! Beautiful work!. I am not sure if I understand your question about the decals. Are you using Lozenge? If so is it Aviattic or kit? If Aviattic is it the 5 color joined? or the Cookie cutter?. The short answer is that cuts on any of these should be vertical along ribs. No diagonal joins were used on the Pfalz DIIIa. IHTH,

Nice save on the wings! The shading looks much better now! As for aging the lozenge try spraying a thin coat of beige/tan over them. You can then do your rib shading using your preferred method. I would suggest practicing the overspray with some spare lozenge applied to sheet styrene or an old wing. I hope this helps,

hi
I try a method to "old" lozenge on the lower wing
at first I spray tamiya smoke along the ribs

and after I spray some brown ink on the décals

I use schmincke aerocolor for that

on the right only decals and on the left with ink

Very well done. I like the different shades of the "Silbergrau" and metal plates, as well as the weathering.

A very attractive looking Pfalz Moustique, this would have to be one of the nicest schemes ever used on the Pfalz aircraft, you have done a superb job.
