All,
I am trying this huge scale for a change! My wife got me this model for Christmas and it's one of my favorite planes. I started it and things went pretty fast, hence no "unboxing" shot. We all know what's in there anyway ::) My build will not be as cool as Far-East's, but it will still look nice. I plan on doing a basic scheme and use the Lewis gun firing forward...but leaving off the "fish" etc. I just want a run of the mill work horse in the field.

Thanks for looking!

That was very quick Dan but what you have done so far is excellent, I'm looking forward to seeing you progress with this build.

Thanks, Des...you could really make this one look great.
Here is one more tiny update. I added/painted engine parts. Nothing is weathered yet but I'm amazed how complicated and neat it all looks just by painting with the call-out numbers from WNW. A great product to be sure...
I'll be adding a bit more to the engine and then closing her up!
Cheers,
Dan

Excellent work! Your painting and construction are crisp and clean. Looks beautiful OOB!

Thanks, Rick...
I wanted a simple and stress free build right now and this guy fits the bill! I can't believe how you basically jiggle the parts and things fall into place...I guess I'm used to scratch building and vacuforms. Plus, I was getting really guilty as my wife has bought me several WNW and I have not finished one yet! My new year's resolution is to get as many of them completed as possible! ;D
Such a tough job, but someone has to do it!
Dan
-
Looks great with the engine sitting in place.
Des.
-
oooh a first WnW after scratch and Vacuuforms, prepare to have a lot of fun just letting the parts fall together :)
So far everything looks noce and clean,b ut after adding some grime it will be even better! Keep on rocking :)
best regards,
Sasho
-
Oh boy! I love the Roland's and as Sasho says this kit just falls together perfectly! Loving the factory fresh finish!

Very good work.

Wow...this thing does just sort of fall together. I am kind of surprised about how some of the parts have hard to remove mold lines and I botched the seam on the dorsal part of the fuselage. I'll likely just sand it off and add a pulled piece of sprue as a facsimile...
These shots show it just stuck together without glue (wings, struts...). I'm amazed how everything just lines up and is perpendicular without any help from the modeler. Amazing what can be done with engineering and computers these days!
Here it is with a stable mate. They are very close in size. I guess the Roland wasn't too huge!

Since these shots, I have done some needed seam filling around the forward cockpit and nose, the fin assembly to fuselage joint and exhaust pipe. It's been primed and I'll make little changes tonight and then off to the paint shop!! 8)
Cheers,
Dan

As always Dan , beautiful job on the painting , coming along nicely so far .

Thanks, folks, for looking and commenting...
Not an exciting update...but it's ready for the paint shop! I'll start the wings and stab/elevator first. Shooting for CDL like I've seen done so well on this site. Wish me luck!

Looking good -and fast, too! Makes my pace seem even more glacial... ;-)

Thanks, Guys! I did a bit of CDLing...I still need to do some work on it with pastels and maybe some washes...but I put on the wing decals.
These are still drying (as you can see) and I hope they conform nicely. Seems like they will!
There is just something about those early crosses on huge white fields that shouts "victory!". ;D
More on the fuselage next time,
Dan

Excellent work Dan with the CDL and the decals, you sure are moving along at a blistering pace :)

Thanks Des and Rick...this one is so fun to put together and so quick, I agree. Instant gratification. I just can't figure out why I don't see many WNW at shows. I guess folks are just scared of anything other than an F-16, Mustang or Messerschmitt!
Here are some more shots just to show I made headway. Mind you, the parts are just friction-fit together...no glue on the wings, movable surfaces etc. Just trying to get a feel for the look. I like it! I sprayed the basic scheme. No detail yet or weathering etc. You can even see some things needing fixes but man-oh-man...I like the contrast in colors and the sit is just lovely. I've always been a Roland fan and now even more so! Puts my Airfix 1/72nd job to shame. ;)

As with all my stuff, it's nobody's plane but if I was there in 1916, it would be mine.
Even my wife thinks it's pretty! More soon...

Very nice work! The contrast between the blu/grey fuselage and CDL wings is terrific. The pace of your build is amazing, it takes me longer than this to pull the parts out of the box :-[

Wow, Dan! That was quick! Didn't even get a chance to comment on the beautiful interior before you got the whole thing together. I agree with Rick. Love the CDL wings.
Cheers,

I'm going to
steal take lots of hints and tips from this fantastic build for my own 1/48 offering!

She is a gorgeous looking model Dan, the colours are very well matched which makes for a very attractive scheme.

Wow Dan , you turned this one pretty quick ! Awesome job on this build :)

Cracking build, Dan!
The CDL/pale blue combo works a treat. ;)
Good luck with the weathering.

Lovely build Dan, as you have said the WnW models just fall together, precision engineering in plastic.

Danny I was just missing this beautiful WIP, you are really honouring this great kit!
Do you plan to put curtains behind the window panes?

Hello All,
Almost there! I got it rigged using some EZ-line and fishing line connected to home made buckles via heat shrink tubing. Seems to hold so far... ::)
Still need some weathering, detail painting, prop, pastel work etc...but the next time it will be over in the completed area!
