Hi all
this is my first build on this forum
I take a fokker Dr.I eduard 1/48 week end édition but I think it will be more than a week end to build it
oh my god I don't think that this plane was so small at quarter scale( my poor eyes :o)
this is the box
(http://img11.hostingpics.net/pics/7461961.jpg) (http://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php?id=7461961.jpg)
inside a little sheet to make harness (thank eduard he put two sets in the box)
(http://img11.hostingpics.net/pics/7706972.jpg) (http://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php?id=7706972.jpg)
ok I want to build this model straight from the box
the only add will be a sheet of decals by pheon decals to make this model
(http://img11.hostingpics.net/pics/2435413.jpg) (http://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php?id=2435413.jpg)
red is not red and white is not white and for me the challenge is to reproduce the differents tone of these two colors
I follow the notice and start by the fuselage with an old wooden décals(I don't remember the manufacturer)

Indeed! Good luck with this one moustique. I often wonder about the implication that a kit might be just a weekend's work.
Best wishes
Nigel

Nice work on the cockpit! I think the paper belts look nicer than the PE ones I used in my OLD build.

Hi a little update
I've painted the wings in red
at first I sprayed tamiya xf 7 misc with a few drops of yellow

after I've masked all the couples
(http://img15.hostingpics.net/pics/7793929.jpg) (http://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php?id=7793929.jpg)
then I spray along the mask tamiya XF7 misc with a few drops of black

(http://img15.hostingpics.net/pics/93638211.jpg) (http://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php?id=93638211.jpg)
then I spray tamiya xf7 on the model and I take off the masks
(http://img15.hostingpics.net/pics/91914113.jpg) (http://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php?id=91914113.jpg)
for finish before decallingI spray some coats of klir misc with a few drop of carmin ink
(http://img15.hostingpics.net/pics/31441214.jpg) (http://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php?id=31441214.jpg)
here is the result

(http://img11.hostingpics.net/pics/6926386816.jpg) (http://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php?id=6926386816.jpg)
I think to use the same method fot the blue on the lower wing
I just want your opinion to know if the red seems good
I use also this méthod to paint the fuselage

Nice and subtle shading -I'm saving the red with some black tip for my 1/72 Jasta Raben models. I had intended to pre-shade the shading (what's in a word...), but this seems to be somewhat easier to control.

Very beautiful painting.

That does look very good. I've been toying with getting this kit and I think you've sold me on it with what you've done so far. eBay here I come. :)
-
Beautiful work with the wing shading and then the final painting, the red is a very nice colour.

Great work and the prop is very good indeed.
-
I am loving this so far
Alan.

Looking great, especially the propeller! It seems like the white on the wing crosses suffered a bit of bleeding, or is that just the picture?
-
Outstanding painting on the wings and prop! Looks terrific!

I love what you did with the propeller, and the wings look excellent.

Hi!
I really love how you've managed the red color. OUtstanding.
However, your blue is not the idea I had of what the underside of german aircraft looked like.
Am I wrong in believing it looks too greyish?
ciao

I tend to agree with you, Iwik. The undersides were often a richer sky blue, from what I've seen.

Beautiful, Iwik, your mastery on shading is impressive.
Did you paint the propeller or it's a real wood one?
:-O
-
Regarding the underside blue, colour is often an argued subject on WW1 aircraft. Curiously I too did the underside of a DR.1 in grey, it was so long ago that I cannot remember where I got the reference from - it may have been from the kit manufacturer. A light blue/green is also depicted but the only fact I can say about colours is that we do not know for sure what they are and may have even varied form DR.1 to DR.1. On reading a description of how colour back then was mixed the writer stated that X number of handfuls - yes handfuls of different pigments were mixed into varnish. The varnish also had a yellow tint to it. This does give one great advantage - artistic license. In my opinion you cannot really be wrong as far as aircraft colours are concerned.

thank all for your comments
jeroen I think it's the picture
andonio the propeller was painted
iwik I 'm agree with you but I don't was able to find the best blue
maybe too much shade
so looking now the wing I found that it's not shocking
thank Alan for these precisioons
-
Lovely work and to my eye the underside looks fine colourwise.
I was informed the underside of DR.I's were finished in Focker turquoiuse not light blue anyway. Not to say it wasn't overpainted when the red & new national makings were applied. I know it's been discussed as many times as *what shade is PC10/12* so do what you feel is my advice.
-
Hi!
I remember airbrushing the underside of an Albatros DII with a transparent yellow varnish to imitate the varnish used in real life, and it did look good.
Just a thought...

HI
thank for your feedback
I've painted the tail in white
(http://img11.hostingpics.net/pics/61238320.jpg) (http://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php?id=61238320.jpg)
and also the cowler
the engine was built straight from the box but it seems that something was missing
but all the pictures I've seen I'm not sure what was missing
please help me with pictures of both side of the engine

Only thing missing are pushrods and rocker arms but they are on the back side so hard to see in this scale. I think the original kit had them as a photoetched piece but since the real ones were round better to use fine wire. Also you could add sparkplugs wit pieces of stretched sprue if you want to detail it. here's a photo of actual Oberursel rotary.
-
thank Dave for this picture
I think that my engine will stay that way ;D

Looks pretty good to me.

Nicely done engine!
RAGIII

Looks like you used a dark steel color for the engine cylinders and crankcase (middle part of the engine). It would look better to do the crankcase in an aluminum color as this was a different metal than the cylinders, which were darker. Not sure if the cylinders were painted black or if that was like gun metal treated to blue them. when you are done give it a sepia colored wash in the cylinders to fill in between the fins and look like burnt castor oil.
Dave
-
thank Toby and Ragg to follow me
thank Dave to your feedback
I don't want to do many work on this engine which is not very visible but I'll keep your feedback for future builds
so I make a big mistake
Ipaint all parts separatly and when its time to build the fuselage is more darker than the wings
(http://img11.hostingpics.net/pics/4952136223.jpg) (http://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php?id=4952136223.jpg)
I paint with the same 3 misc but not in the same order
it's too late it will stay like this :-[
-
It is just my opinion but I do not see the difference in shades of red between the fuselage and wings as a big deal. Just tell everyone you planned it that way as there was differing shades between red over wood, metal, and fabric, and red over fuselage and wing fabric. No one was there and can dispute you! ;D
RAGIII
-
I agree with Rick!
Also, there would have been castor oil and exhaust staining darkening that area more than the wings anyway.
Drew
-
thank Rick and Drew
you make me happy ;D
another problem I've lost one part of the kit
did you know a place to buy the lost parts(aftermarket)
-
Which parts have you lost?
RAGIII
-
Either try Eduard or Revell, they released the weekend edition of this kit so the part numbers would be the same.
-
I've lost the part C21(right side)
(http://img11.hostingpics.net/pics/959438dr1.jpg) (http://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php?id=959438dr1.jpg)
-
if Eduard or Revelle can't help I have a kit I will most likely never build/ finish. I will send you the part but it will take a while to get to you I would imagine. ( I am a lot slower and less dependable than Eduard ::) ) PM me if you need the part.
RAGIII

Eduard has great customer service, if you go to their website and e-mail the customer service with kit # and part # they will send you the missing part as long as it is still in production. Last year I needed a tailplane for one of my Nieuport 11's that was missing, and after e-mailing Eduard they not only sent me the correct part, but the whole sprue! That's what I call great customer service!
Dave
-
yes Dave a great customer service
I send an email to Eduard and they sent me also the complete sprue
I"m wainting fot this
