Title: WNW Rumpler C. IV late
Post by: Rob on November 12, 2015, 10:49:45 AM
This is the first time I've posted anything I've built on a forum. The photos were taken with my iphone and aren't the best-I'll work on that. I read a thread a few days ago encouraging "average" modelers to show their work. Well that describes me and here's mine ! I used Tamiya, Alclad and Mr. Color to finish and Gaspatch turnbuckles and monofilament for the rigging. I'm currently working on a Roland D. VIb. and hope to improve my weathering skills when I'm done.
I welcome any and all critiques and comments. My skin is thick and I have no false illusions about my abilities  ;D

v/r,
Rob

She certainly is a beauty, Rob!  I'm sure glad you decided to post.  To have the skills to rig using Gaspatch turnbuckles indicates that you're far more than an average modeler.  You've done an outstanding job all around and I look forward to seeing more of your work.
Cheers,
Bud

You're selling yourself short, Rob. Your model looks great! Far from "average". I look forward to seeing more of your builds, as well as a few more pics of this Rumpler.

George

PS: Welcome to the forum. I'm glad you decided to take the plunge and begin posting!

Very, very nice Rob, and absolutely nothing "average' about this Build! Nice "clean" work and the extra plumbing details on the engine really add to the quality of the model. Looking forward to more contributions from you in future.
Cheers,
Lance

Well from what I've seen and read on this site I'm not surprised at the responses. Thank You for the encouragement. I'll post one more shot and then I'm going to figure out how to improve my photo-taking ability. Once I've got that done I think I'll start a WIP for my Rumpler.
Again, thanks for the warm welcome.

Rob

Cripes....if this is "average" I look forward to seeing your work when you feel you've advanced.

As has been pointed out, getting the Gaspatch turnbuckles right and adding the extra plumbing to the engine are not easy or average tasks. Well done.

As far as a critique.....to show a bit more evidence of usage, if that's to your taste, you've made a great start with the exhaust looks and I'd encourage you to try taking it a bit further on the rest of the plane. Maybe some really subtle pin washes around the cowling rivets and seams. It looks as if you did well with the engine, maybe carry on the same feeling on some of the exterior. Maybe try adding a little dust to the tires.
The gang here will tell you that I tend to portray airplanes as really dirty and worn out, so perhaps I am not the best one to give advice. But, I believe even a little weathering, in scale, will really help pop the visual appeal of any model.

Welcome aboard!! I hope others will follow your lead.

Cheers from NYC,
Michael

You have done an incredible job on this model, no signs that you are an 'average' modeler at all, looking forward to seeing what you do next.

Rob.

I have to agree with what Michael said. The Rumpler is one of my favourite WNW releases.

I can see you have the ability to really make a build shine you just have to do it. It's not always about getting the pinpoint accurate details.

An outstanding build doesnt have to be rivet or wingnut perfect but has the right feel and look.

I look forward to seeing what you bring us next.  My photographic skills are nada anyway so don't stress to much about that.  ;)

First of all - great that a thread in a different section convinced you to post these photos.
Secondly - I agree with the others - this model proves you are well over the average!
Thirdly, please, do your best to take better photos (there is a section on this, too) because your lovely Rumpler surely deserves yet better presentation!
And finally - thank you for presenting a little bit "forgotten" WNW model built to such a fine level!

Rob,
Joining the chorus in saying that your "Average" modeler status is certainly in question  ::) I am very happy that Jorgs thread gave you the incentive to post your work! Your work with the Gaspatch turnbuckles is outstanding and the overall finish is beautiful! I am looking forward to your build log on your next one!

I'd like to add one more thing to my earlier comments. I realize that you are working on taking better photos (although the photos are pretty good considering you used an iPhone!) It would be nice to see some overall shots from different angles so we could see the tail and the rest of your model, and maybe even some shots of the underside. For some good examples, go the Wingnuts website and look at the Customer Models section.

Good idea George, I'll work on that tonight after I get home. I have access to a Nikon D50 with a big honking lens (courtesy of the better half) but it's going to take some practice to get the kind of shots I want. I certainly need to improve the lighting and focus. I've been looking at the photography thread and getting some good ideas.

I hope no one minds, but here are a few more shots I took this afternoon. It turns out my wife had picked up a used DSLR some time ago-no idea why but I'm not complaining. I am going to put it to good use. I would like to get some type of a tripod and maybe a light box as Bo described in his photography thread but those will come later.

Rob
