I have just noted, we are slowly approaching another milestone - 25 hundred registered members. Will we hold a usual guess-the-date game?
Edit
Since there is no opposition from forum authorities I will proclaim myself as a co-ordinator. So here it goes:
The rules:
If the date is already taken, one cannot pick it up - you have to choose another.
For a moment, the only prize is the glory of being the winner, but it may change.
All dates will be Australian Eastern Daylight Saving time
And the closing date for placing your bets is December 15th.
The dates taken:
December 15th - Gregory
December 18th - Thumbs up
December 19th - Pgtaylorart
December 21st - Bo
December 22nd - Doug Mace
December 24th - Edo
December 27th - Nigel Jackson
December 28th - Toldbod
December 31st - Tony Haycock
January 2nd - RAGIII
January 4th - Bud
January 7th - Cimmerian
January 10th - LCarroll
January 13th - Jörg
February 1st - PrzemoL
February 14th - Ernie
February 23rd - mgunns
February 24th - Ssasho0
February 28th - Radio
-
Oh, yes please.
Best wishes
Nigel

Let's do this! I'll take December 19. (Do we need to start a new thread for this?)

2500 members but only 260 or so have posts in double figures or more and something like 60% of members have never posted anything at all.
I wonder why people join a forum and never post anything. ???

Squiffy,
Hopefully they are just shy........ ;)

Registering is the only way to see photos here. And there are always much more lurkers than contributors.

...but that's okay, right? Some of those lurkers will no doubt eventually post something, possibly a build log, once they've built up the confidence to show their work. When I first joined the 'drome, I had built two or three models, learning while lurking, before I had the nerve to post anything at all.

Bud

Actually, I've joined forums just so I can access photos and posts while researching models. I didn't post anything myself because those forums aren't dealing with my main interests and I wasn't building models that were appropriate for their forum.
Sometimes it's fun to be a lurker! ;D

Forums are a great source of information and many people will join a forum to have access to that information, but as with all forums the members are not obligated to make any posts or to participate in any topic. Most forums have a member base where there are a large number of members who never post, these people are regarded as 'lurkers' but I prefer to call them 'members', they are still a registered member and they are getting something from the forum. It doesn't concern me at all that there are '60%' of members who do not post, I know from my admin records that most of those people are reading every topic that has been posted, a large number of 'non posters' are following particular topics and probably gaining vital information which would be helping them with their own builds. So, even though there is not a huge number posting on the forum there are many many members who are reading and watching what you post.

That's very interesting information, Des. It's even more important to keep up on our build threads than I thought. Making our experience and learning process public is helping more people than I realized! :)

well,
to me there are many issues why I do not post very much:
- I am not an English native speaker and writing in English is not so straight forward
- besides English text, publishing a build thread is real work as I have to take the pictures, post process them and publish them and sometimes I just don't feel there is really something to share that worths the effort
- many times I am just speechless in front of the incredible details acheived and adding "Yeah! Great work!" seems reducing in front of the pieces of art that I see
Nevertheless, it is true, not contributing actively to the life of the forum makes me feel guilty...
sooo... good deed for next year: contribute more! ;D
p.s.
I'll pick Christmas eve for the 2500th member! A good present from Santa Claus!
ciao

I am a 'non poster' and had not built a WWI aeroplane since a 1/72 Airfix kit of the Bristol Fighter around 1960. A year ago I discovered Wingnut Wings models and after deciding to give one a try I am hooked. In my quest for more knowledge of the Albatros I had decided to build, the era, the technicalities of making such a model and a general insight in to the world of WWI aircraft I discovered this site and enjoy every minute of browsing its content.
It is thanks to you members who post build logs that I have learnt so much and am continuing to learn. I have subsequently built the Bristol Fighter and, through knowledge gleaned from this forum feel confident enough to make a start on the Felixstowe kit.
I may submit a build log in the future and I will post in a topic if I feel I can make a contribution but for now I am happy to be a 'lurker'.

I am glad that my innocent posts started such an interesting discussion.
To add one more thing, I do not mind the presence of "lurkers" - it is a normal thing in forums. Not everybody wishes to reveal himself. But I would like to encourage everybody to share his thoughts and, especially, the builds. We all like to see the models of our favourite subjects, started, continued and finished. And we are all happy to offer help if needed.
And coming back to the subject, I will pick February 1st, as the date for 2500th member registering.
And since Des did not oppose, I will be updating the list of dates and names in the first post in this thread. Just a reminder - if the date is already taken, one cannot pick it up - you have to choose another.
For a moment, the only prize is the glory of being the winner, but it may change.
And the closing date for placing your bets is December 15th.
-
I'm picking 24th February :) yeah I know that this is like too far away, but I like the date :)

I'll chime in for Dec.15,2015 as the date. No real reason for the choice other than it's my birthday. What could top that? Birthday and seeing a forum I do so love grow to new heights. Just a thought I wonder when we'll be talking about 3500?

it's a long way to Tipperary...

I will predict February 23 2016 for the 2500th member. Way to go Des for providing a great forum.

13 chosen dates have already been struck off the list with only 6 selected dates remaining, as of today we still need another 23 new members to reach the magical 2,500 number.
Des.
-
Yes, Des...
you are right... it seems I've been over optimistic... :'(
I'll do better at the 3000 mark!
ciao

We only need another 10 new members and the 2,500 mark will be reached, hopefully this will happen before the end of the month.

Drat! Prezmo, you forgot to allow for the time difference! And thank Mrs. Prze
for becoming our 2500th member. ;) ;D ;D (Just kidding!! :))
Aside from the silliness, Congratulations Des on another major milestone for
your amazing forum, which we all love so much! Onward and upward, my friend.
Cheers,
Ernie :)

Yes Ernie, onward and upward towards 3,000 members.
Sorry Przemol for missing by one day but if anyone wishes to check the profile of MJH (our 2,500th member) you will clearly see that the date of registration was 2nd February 2016.
