Title: Gotha GVb engine question

So I was looking at the late style exhaust that was on some late Gotha GVb.  It is the one that has all the fins on it.  I was curious where exactly the exhaust comes out?  I can't see any visible slots where it comes out?  Or is this some kind of different style where the exhaust goes back into the engine like a turbo charger?  I can post more pics but I can't see any openings?  Maybe I have no idea what this part is and maybe it's not an exhaust at all.....

I guess I thought they were bolt heads but upon further inspection you may be absolutely correct.....
