Title: Roland CII 1:48
Post by: spartacus2000 on October 30, 2015, 06:45:30 AM
Hello everyone finally my first wip.
As the title suggests the kit in question is the Roland CII of Eduard
This kit is always good, with some nice decals, photo-etched plate (color) and masks for wheels and to cover the side windows.
As usual, I going to complicate life with a massive reconstruction work and detail in scratch and the choice not to use the enclosed decal, I'm going to make it more colorful maqueste is another story ...
Let's start with the artbox

The model itself is not bad but there are several inaccuracies and simplifications.
The first thing I change is the main tank, too long. Also the aux tank behind the pilot's seat  is not present so I'll make it exnovo.

(http://www.modellismopiu.net/m+gallerie/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=1106635[/imgOther upgrades are the seats: the one of the pilot too basic: low and out of shape, I added the missing part with a piece of plastic card and reworked whit tamiya putty[img]http://www.modellismopiu.net/m+gallerie/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=1106641)

The gunner's seat instead is completely fantasy that has been rebuilt from zero

Another work to do on the model are the various frames. Those provided with this kit are full and should be lightened, while others are lacking so you have to rebuild

this will be redone because the result does not satisfy me.

Also this is the wrong shape.

the open frame beind the gunner let see the eject pin and lhe lack of the last frame

Here is the set with all the frames that need to be finished in the right edge

The pilot floor area is lack of the hole where you engage the control bar and pulleys sliding cable steering

while that of the gunner has a trap door that closed the photo does not exist so I open it

The oil tank is not provided in the kit, but wanting to see the beautiful Mercedes engine DIII from Vector that replaces the little proper kit. I do it again in scratch using the plastic card for the main forms and filled with Andrea Miniatures putty ,when is getting hard become super workable, it remain compactand you can even polish for the following coloring treatment with Alclad unforgiving the minimum porosity of the surface
here is the raw form

Here the frames and interior to see how fit all fixed whit patafix

You are doing an excellent job with this build Marco, the modifications you are making have added a great deal to this model, love what you did with the seats. Looking forward to following along with this build.

outstanding work!

I have to say it makes me appreciate the detail found in 1:32 kits, but to bring that level of detail to 1:48!!! WoW!
