First I think it will be the only one in the big scale.
The next builds again in scale 1:48.
When the CSM parts will come. I will build the plane from Lt Josef Jacobs Serial 450/17.
The model needs very much work to come out in a beautiful.
I have already begun the wooden parts of the sides, floor and cut back up.
From brass residues to cut, grind and turn the light cartridge holder. The holes for the illuminating cartridges still to be made.
The fuselage halves internally are largely changed inside

Martin,
Oh I'm so looking forward to following this latest project of your's my old friend. The ancient 1/28 Fokker Dr.I can be a real showstopper.

Hi!
I've got good memories upgrading this kit a few years back. I took great pleasure redoing the cockpit and had to carve a whole new propeller from balsa wood.
The biggest problem was to detail the ugly looking Oberusel. No means to change the cylinders.
Hope you'll find a way to go around that problem;
Will be following this built!
Ciao
Iwik
-
Thank you for your comments, Gregory and Iwik.
I have order the engine, deails and prop from CSM.

Great to see this old kit taking centre stage, looking forward to seeing what you do with this kit Martin.
Des.

Martin,
I too am looking forward to seeing what you do with this old classic. Lots of great memories here, I last built one in 1971! :o

I will do my best. And the kit form is from the end fifies.

Its a bear at times but the only real issues I came across was the Cabane struts fitting.... other than that it flew together. had it done in roughly 2 weeks.

Here are the next progress.
At the hull and mean surface holes filled and sanded.
Drilled holes for fuel caps and steering lines and recess mounted for fuel gauge. Fuel gauge trim corrected. Made opening for tail skid.
Made basic form of the tank made of balsa wood and covered with a thin brass foil.
Customised balsa forms for both ammunition container and cut and bent first half-shell for it.
First steel wires cut and bent to the body frame. They are soldered together.

The forums own Ed Boll has been doing wonders with the kit for years - it can be done and deserves to be!
To think this kit is around 50 years old now!
Richard
First, Thank you Richard for the compliments.
And for Radio, the results are well worth the efforts, looking forward to yours !
Ed
-
Martin,
Really outstanding work! I am planning to build a 1/28th kit next year so I am certainly watching and learning from your build! The fuel tank looks awesome!
RAGIII
-
Very nice work on the fuel tank Martin.
Des.

Thank you for your compliments, Ed, Rick and Des.

Martin

you like to use balsa for your scratch built parts.i am sure that this is much easier to cut and sand than plastic or metal. is it hard to cover the wood grain when you paint. i tryed to use balsa before but it soaked up too much paint and i can still see the wood texture. do you use cyano acrylate for this?
-
Hello Scott,
balsa is the masterpiece to bend the thin alu to right form for the amunition boxes and to fuel tank.
Also you can buy filler for this wood to close this porous surface.
My playwood will only paint with clear colour.
Cheers
Martin
-
Unfortunately, my soldering iron does not combine the individual points. That's why I ordered a new one after more than 30 years. Unfortunately, the tips to purchased are still missing.
Have therefore other work ahead and remade the amuntion case.
The tailskid is almost ready.
Painted the fuselage halves from inside and glued wood panels.
Cheers

Greetings for your work updating the old Revell triplane! The Spandaus are specially impressive.
Just one note you might consider before gluing your seat: Fokker seats backrests were made from canvas covered aluminium sheet, not wood. I think it's better to know it now that you can still fix it easily.
Best Regards,
Beto

Have now started passing the Clerget build engine for the Jacobs Fokker.
The resin parts are beautifully cast but I will also perform here or attach a few changes by selfmade. Here you can see already the first. Inspiring example are drawings of the Sopwith Camel.
Also, it goes to the Floor plates on. The foot plates I've cut out of thin aluminum and glued. The wooden slats to be his plastic strips of 0.5 mm and are already painted wood colors.

Aileron corrected and sanded,
Cable guides and internal control cable mounted drilling
and axle fairings changed.
Engine will be ready tomorrow. The last two ignition wires are then attached.
Burred, further components and primed.

Top wing inside and ailerons with control lever are finished.
Rudder before and after correction with control lever. The hull is behind even shortened. The struts are primed ready for painting.
Tailplane with elevator are too large. And with pencil correction. Must have also shortened after the hull cuts.
Middle wing inside is too long. I don`t know if I make a change quote here.
As the last of the finished engine from the rear. In the front I drilled the propeller shaft.

I started again to build on.
The axis wing on the bottom changes done.
Fuselage reduced by approximately 5mm, the end of re-sanded and filled, for the tailplane struts the holes (they are wrong !;).
Tailplane and rudder new representation of the ribs on the right site attached with thin drawn threads.
What is missing is the connection between the two rudders and the control horns.

It went even further back. In addition to the painting of the surfaces, tail and other things.
Have I built from pine strips a Jack Stand and brake pads for this plane.
Unfortunately, the steel wire lies not solder even after several attempts. That's why I started from brass wire to solder the body cage. The first side is finished and the other I started with the remaining wire. New wires are ordered.

Bravo Martin the frame look very cool.
You must have nerves of steel as all I could think of was the heat from one solder joint flowing to the next and unsoldering that one. Every time I have tried to do anything more than a simple sweat solder job the whole thing collapses into a heap. I never got the hang of controlling the heat flow within the work. Very nice to see your frame looking so very good.

Martin,
That's a great bit of detailing you are doing so getting the correct prop makes sense. The CSM one looks to me like an Axial prop or possibly a Heine, your hand carved looks to be the Neindorf prop for a Dr.1. In English we say "the devil is in the details", it's so true! Keep up your magnificent work, your model is one of a great kind, nicely done so far!
