Title: William Barker's Fokker D.VII race plane

Since there seems to be a real interest in William Barker, I thought I'd add a few pics of a recent completion of a WnW Fokker D.VII (OAW) model that was built to represent his race plane from 1919. I used the Pheon decal sheet of Canadian Fokkers (including the Snipes) and kit decals for the lozenge. I actually had to steal the fuselage decals from the D.VII (Alb) kit because it's the only one with the five-colour option, and I stole the wing crosses from the (Fok) kit since they were the style used on Barker's mount. Some detail like the pitot tube & associated impulse line and small pipe coming from the radiator assembly were added after studying some of the few pictures I could find for reference. I added the small flags on the outer struts as a final step after most of my pics had been taken.

Although I do like the Aviattic decal line, I chose to experiment for the first time with the WnW lozenge decals, and toned them down a large degree with a lightish brown mix of Tamiya acrylic.

But, hey, where is the rigging??? ;)

I did the same on my Hannover build. The toned down WNW decals produced perfectly acceptable results imho.

I wasn't aware that aviattic existed at that stage.

There is a site by a Canadian chap : Edward P Soye " Those Canadian Fokkers",which has pictures of several of the captured German aircraft which were taken back to Canada after WW1. It tells the histories of these aircraft and their fates.

I really like the Lozenge tone-down; I have the D.VII Alb and wasn't sure if I would be able to pull off the Jasta 73 nearly-full Lozenge scheme. This model makes me want to try it, thanks for that! (not that it'll look nearly as good, though...)

I also love the reversed aileron!
