Title: F.E.2b (early) 1/32
Post by: Squiffy on September 28, 2015, 04:26:45 AM
Evening, chaps!

My second foray into the world of the large scale. In at the deep end would describe how I feel about it!  :-[

I'm not posting a blow-by-blow account of the build as better modellers than I have covered these things. Instead I'm posting a few photos as I progress with this beast.

I think that's the easy part done with. I've been looking at the rigging diagram and it's frightening  :o

Well Squiffy,

it seems very good for now, I like the wood color. Do you plan on fully rigging the interior and for which paint scheme are you going?
I'm working on the exatly same kit and currently on the exactly same step (minus the engine), but probably you will be finishing yours long before mine is anywhere close to finishing :)
I will continue to follow your build for tips and tricks :)

best regards,
Sasho

Thanks, chaps.

Sasho - I am doing the 22 Sqn. scheme. I have fitted the control rigging to the interior but not that for the frame.

(http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l5/soddit36/Stuff2/Fee017.jpg) (http://s92.photobucket.com/user/soddit36/media/Stuff2/Fee017.jpg.html)
The pieces of masking tape are to keep the rigging out of the way whilst I fit the wings.

By the way, this is my first ever attempt at airbrushing. I bought a compressor and airbrush last week and am basically learning as I go.

Wow!! Impressive work, Squiffy! After working with the smaller scales, 1/32 must seem like a piece of cake to you. Your airbrush skills are spot on also.

The nascelle looks excellent! Once you get comfortable with the airbrush, you wills ee how much easier and better it is than the old brush, especially for large surfaces.
I'm going for "Zanzibar #1" option :)

No work today so I have put the upper plane on and have 4 wires rigged so far. I don't know how I've managed that as I can't really see to put the line through the eyelets and tubes!

Only another 48 wires to rig and then it's onto fitting the lattice tail and rigging that.

I'm wondering -  are there any crew figures available for this kite? I delibertely haven't fitted the seatbelts in case I can put a crew in...

Squiffy, have you checked Nordland Models website? They offer an FE2B pilot and gunner (part #RFC07B) for about US$45.00

Thanks, Pietro,

Since my last post I looked through the figures section of this forum and found that very crew. The Nordland models site shows them as out of stock. I'm hoping to be able to buy them from a supplier here in the UK but have had no luck so far.

Thanks, chaps.  :)

The top plane is on, the tail fitted and most of the standing rigging is done but work has stopped . I have run out of tubes and eyelets and have sent a telegram to Herr Von Buckle for more supplies.

Squiffy,
I marvel at the superb quality of work you produce in so little time; this one is certainly no exception! Great results all round to this point and, no doubt, more of the same on the way. It will be a pleasure and a learning experience to follow you along the trail to completion.
Cheers,
Lance

Undercarriage, tail planes, rudder and prop are now fitted.

I have bombs ready to fit (2x112lb) but the instructions don't show any detail of where the release cables should go to on the bomb racks. :-\

Fine progress, Squiffy on one of my favourite WNW kits.

I have bombs ready to fit (2x112lb) but the instructions don't show any detail of where the release cables should go to on the bomb racks. :-\

There was no standard layout. Some possibilities are shown in the Cross and Cockade monograph on FE.2b - I found it to be the best source of knowledge on this aircraft.
