While I wait to build up the courage to rig the Spad 13, I decided to break this out of the stash:
Special Hobby Nieuport 16 which I will build as Rumseys repaired machine:

The Special Hobby kit is quite nice, lots of resin, good quality ( but not WnW) plastic, and a PE fret
I will use my own recent released 1/32 Kiwi Decals Lafayette sheet for this aircraft ( shameless plug!)

Ive made a start on the engine first, all resin and a complicated build, complete with separate spark plugs and pushrods.
I managed to put the cylinders on around the wrong way as I DIDNT read the instructions, and the last rotary engine I worked on was a Gnome, of course this is a Le Rhone and is quite different, what a fool I am.
Initially I gave the whole engine a coat of Tamiya spray silver, then a wash of thinned humbrol gun metal.
After the wash I sponged some dull silver on the crankcase

This gave me a nice cast metal impression

Followed with a wash of copper over the induction pipes, and replacing the resin pushrods with rolled solder

Apart from the ignition harness, the engine is now complete

Great to see this Special Hobby kit being built, you have made a terrific start with the engine, the colour is excellent.

Your engine looks great! I have pulled this box out of the pile many times. Perhaps your build will be the inspiration I need to actually build the kit !

Have always been curious about this kit. I look forward to watching your build.

I saw this on Hyperscale as well. It will be interesting to see a build of one of these.

Dittos, the engine looks great-- makes it worth the price of the kit !

More progress at last on the Bebe
Ive managed to complete the interior. But for some reason the internal rigging would lose tension overnight. In an attempt to tighten it i hovered a hot needle near it, which melted the bracing. Of course its too late to remove it now.

Time to stitch the fuselage together :-)

Kiwi,
Beautiful work on her engine my friend. Equally impressive work on the interior as well. I do wonder about the use of blue for the steel pieces of the interior though. I was under the impression that these should be black or possibly natural metal (silver) for Nieuport aircraft and that blue would be proper for a SPAD. That being said the blue does certainly look great. If you feel it's necessary to replace the internal rigging I would suggest using Easy Line or similar product. Looking forward to the next excellent update.

here is an original at the Musee de l'Aire.
Of course this could be incorrect also...

Very nice work Kiwi - you have given me the metaphorical kick in the butt I need to continue with mine in the GB
You've made a very nice start on the internals and the engine - looking forwards to further updates. Thanks for the inspiration ;)
