No need to introduce the SSW D-III here...
...neither Ernst Udet's machine.
This time, the scene depicts Udet's fiancee Lola Zink being photographed in front of the machine.
The only 1/72 kit currently available is the ex-Toko now issued by Eastern Express. It suffers from a few errors in shape, ie the span is a little too wide, the upperwing cutout is too shallow and the elevator has an insufficient chord. I could do nothing for the span as reducing it would have made the spacing between ribs irregular. But the upperwing cutout was reshaped and the elevator was scratch-rebuilt and covered with painted rolling paper.
Apart from Eduard Spandaus and seatbelts, the detailing is scratch, with home-printed lozenges. Orion figures.

Thanks, but all credits should go to:
-Udet for that gorgeous paint scheme
-Orion for including a lady figure in their WWI box.

I have to agree with all of the others! Beautiful work!

Very nice final result. It is not an easy kit to build and you overcome it so well.

Incredible work! Better than I can do in 1/32 :-[

I always admire your models because they are so good. This is no exception - I really like this one in every way. Turnbuckles in 1/72 scale have just blown my mind away completely…….
Very many congratulations on an excellent build and diorama.
Stephen.

Thanks all for your kind comments.
The kit is not easy to build but not more difficult than a Roden or MAC one at the same scale.
Now that I can see it in 3 dimensions, this bird appears to have very well balanced shapes.
I'm currently building a WWII model but will soon be back with some austro-hungarian stuff most probably.
