Just wondering if your Macchi M5 sheet might be done in 1/32 for the HPH model? The 1/48 sheet was great and I would buy one for the HPH kit if you would do it

great question! i would definitely order a set!

I wonder if Rowan is reserving his effort for the Aviattic version, to go in the box?

Ah yes that just occurred to me as well...

I think you may have hit the nail on the head James ;)

Well there's no fooling you guys, is there?
As Jamo correctly deduced, I am going to be responsible for the Decals for the forthcoming Aviattic Macchi M5, which Ron has been steadily working on for what, two years or more?
The trouble with after market decals for resin kits is simply a matter of volume. I have no idea how many kits HpH are going to produce or sell but I am guessing that the low hundreds would be ballpark and possibly even fewer. I have tried to generate enthusiasm for after market decals for expensive resin kits with the excellent Silver WIngs productions but there seems to be a reluctance to spend more money on decals to apply to an already expensive resin kit. I find that rather counter intuitive, because if I'd spent over £100 on a Silver Wings kit with (in all honesty) pretty average decals, then another few £s to give it a fitting finishing touch would seem to be an easily afforded choice. Weird, I think, but that seems to be what the market is telling me so, sadly, I don't see enough sales there to even cover my decal print costs for the ten colour production needed for a full set of M5 markings.
The good thing about working with such a pain in the arse stickler for quality as Richard, is that I know that he will want the best decals to go with his kits, with plenty of choices (I think he's looking at two or three different boxings for his Macchi with four or five options for each), so my anxiety about after market volumes goes away and the buyer really will be getting everything in the box - just wait and see!
I hope you understand my reasoning and I also hope that the HpH decals - which I haven't seen - are worthy of their model (which looks very nice, by the way).

But is there a chance that your decals will be available for separate selling after the Avattic models are released?
-
Thanks for the info and your insight Rowan. Very well Stated!

I guess I'll just have to build 2 M5's !

Well, Hidde, that will be up to Richard, as the decals will be his copyright. Probably the best thing to do if yopu want alternative markings for the HpH kit is to buy the Aviattic kit when it comes out and use the decals for one of their options - as Mr Badcat says, that will mean two M5's on the shelf, but that is scarcely a hardship - I mean, who wouldn't want two examples of the best looking and most elegant aircraft of WWI (that may be just my opinion but it is in no way a humble one, or open to discussion!!) in their collection?
-
I totally agree with Rowan. BTW, some time ago his decals for 72nd scale M.5 made me pass through a tedious double build of Choroszy resin kits. And I fell in love with M.5. If anyone challenges what Rowan said, I will join him in the defence ;D

Rowan, that was already the plan! I do love the seaplane from WWI, am/was saving for a Felixstowe, but a pair of M.5's isn't bad either... any idea on how long we have to wait for the Aviattic version?

Richard is the man to respond on dates for the Aviattic Macchi M5 - I'm guessing next year? Given what other lovelies he already has in the queue...... Plenty of time to save up!

Cryptic or not, it all sounds very exciting.
And not to be crytptic on my side, I will just say, that my fingers are itching to touch that Balilla!!! ;)

Cryptic is good, Richard. Gives me a tingling sense of anticipation.
Cheers,
