Just to prove I've been modelling for a long time..
Came across this old photo today from 40 years ago. I'd made a few of the Airfix and Revell WW1 kits by then but always found the top wings and struts a bit of a challenge!
Anyone else got evidence of an early start into the hobby? Pictures of first kits etc...

I envy you youngsters with photographic evidence of your early achievements. All I have are cave drawings in my ancestral home.

Oh man, when I was a kid I desperately wanted that Revell 1/32 Stuka! I saw it on the box sides of other kits but couldn't find it for the longest time. When I finally did, it became one of my most treasured kits for years but the funny thing is, even though I dry fit and taped it together many times, I never built it! When I got out of large scale WWII aircraft it was sold with a number of others from my stash.
Cheers,
Eric

Great photo! You look so serious. What a look of concentration.

Here is a pic from 1973 of some of my models, showing the first World War I models I built, all in 1/72.

It looks like the entire Revell catalog of 1/72 aircraft kits.

I posted the pics I am going to add to this thread a while back. The first is me in 1966 with my Uncle building a Monogram Cessna kit. The rest are around 1969 to 1971.

i envy guys who have things from their youth. i have got nothing from before 2005, katrina took everything i owned exept a suitcase and its contents. oddly i have become a bit of a hoarder as if i have this subconcious need to accumulate new memories asap. its an odd thing loosing all of your worldly possessions. i still find myself thinking " what shall i wear tonight perhaps that nice leather jacket...oh ....thats right.....nevermind." i am not complaining mind you but i do get a little sad once in a while when i think about it.
