Title: Eindecker control column
Post by: ade on April 12, 2015, 06:33:40 PM
Having studied a few builds on here, I have seen some where the centre of the control wheel has a "red" area painted?

This looks similar to a WW2 gun button but probably isn't. WNW state the centre is just painted black...

Any guidance would be great.

Don't know about any red applied anywhere...

This is a replica, but a pretty good one I think :

I don't know where Chris got that idea -- maybe he will stop by. Not saying it's wrong BTW!

If you are new to WWI modeling, it may require a bit of an ... adjustment ... to get used to the very many uncertainties. The other thing is... modern ideas of standardization don't completely apply, especially with the early aircraft like the Eindeckers, so I don't think anyone can say the firing button couldn't be red. Personally I think it seems a little bit of imposing a later idea of the red firing button from a WWII or jet era plane, kind of a Hollywood thing... But who knows!

Yeah, when you look at other controls for firing Emma-Gee's in WWI a/c, one doesn't see *red* as we find later on. As Bo said, not saying it couldn't be, but . . . . it just doesn't follow the trend during the period. In fact, aside from B&W instruments, one doesn't usually find ANY color per se on controls, dials, etc. The one exception I can think of is the red on a compass needle.

Warren

Hey... that's me!  Sorry, I stumbled in late.

I think the red under discussion is part of the kit supplied decal for the trigger button...

Also not claiming that this is accurate.

Sorry for the late reply,

Chris

EDIT:

I don't have the model in front of me, but looking at the instructions on the WnW website, I believe it is decal #50. Hope this helps.

Chris

Wow !

Thanks for that - you know I actually missed that decal on my instructions.

I shall add it forthwith.....although my cockpit is now enclosed in the fuselage...

I was just getting used to the squares and circles on the WNW instructions...

Glad I found the thread.  Your build is coming along very nicely.
