Title: Any SSW DIII walkaround out there on the web???
Post by: iwik on April 10, 2015, 12:56:39 AM
Hi!
To remove some existential questions from my poor earthly brain, I'm in need of a good walkaround of this bird for my Roden built. Plenty of stuff with other aircraft but this one.... :-\
I already have the WD but it's not enough on the details like how thin is the cowling? If the handles are made of fabric can we see the warping of some cloth around it? What does the attach for the wire on the cowling look like? If the securing system of the cowling is like the one we can find on the Fokker E series where is the locking system?
Help.
Ciao

As far as I know there is no walk around .  Other then a few of the D.VI . Somewhere in Europe .

Are you wanting to thin the kit cowl ?

If you are referring to the grab handles they weren't wrapped in fabric . These are part of the airframe . These were box in and the this box was lined in fabric for weather/water proofing .

The cowl clips ( no band ) has two on each side ( will send you a drawing later ) . Something similar to Albatros style .
What also aided in keeping the cowl in place the drag wires attachment point on the cowl , these are bolted to the engine support .
There was no wire holding the cowl in place .

This weekend I will do up some drawings for you Iwik , I not the greatest of artist but you will be able to work with them .

I used to have this article , but lost it and would reaaly like to get it back . Maybe some here can help you with this .

The only surviving fuselage is that of the albatros H 1 high altitude record aircraft in Poland.

Look for Albatros H1 and you will find some photos.

Someone thought that a D IV fuselage was preserved T the caproni museum ,but it seems that it was a Pfalz dR I fuselage. It is almost in pieces, though.
