Title: WNW Eindecker (another)
Post by: ade on April 08, 2015, 02:51:41 AM
Ok guys, finally took the plunge and this arrived today.

This is only my second WW1 build and my first at this scale. I shall (hopefully) post the progress and will almost certainly be asking for advice, although other builds on here have been studied in detail I can tell you!

Great choice!  I completed this kit a couple of months ago and really enjoyed it.  There are a number of excellent build threads in these forums which I found quite helpful.

Looking forward to watching this fine together for you.

Nice to see you starting another WWI Build Ade! I'm thinking you've been bitten by the dreaded WWI "Bug"! Alittle more rigging then your Roland however with Bob's Products in hand you won't go wrong, enjoy!

Quick question for all you experts here:

The centre of the control "wheel" - WNW say just paint it black but I have seen builds here with a red (ish) portion rather like a WW2 fire button...??

Any advice on painting this bit would be appreciated.   :)

Some progress today.

Included some very basic control lines - I'm not that skilled yet to put turn buckles etc down to that detail.

OK, had a bash at the turned metal. Not too bad really. Will probably look great once it's been toned down with some weathering and had a matt coat.

Plus the tail fin done while other bits dried.

I used the separate iron cross and finished the fin with off-white as I think it gives a more natural look than a regular white.

Yes, the off white works much better and the oil staining add a nice warmth to the cool metal. It's coming along very nicely!

Just a couple of hours this week due to a busy work and band schedule.

Managed to get the engine fitted along with the tail. Did some shading of the ribs on the tail which seem to have come out pretty well, so I have masked off the wings ready for spraying using a similar technique over the weekend.

The tail colour looks slightly different in the pics as it hasn't yet had any weathering applied like the fuselage. Likewise the engine will get some "oiling" later.

Fair bit done today.

Wing decals went on superbly with a little assistance from Mr Micro Sol and his brother Mr Micro Set.

Just a thin layer of Tamiya Smoke being applied here to tone everything down. Still glossed up from the decals so a nice matt coat up next. Undercarriage being prepped...getting closer to the dreaded rigging..

I just (largely) followed WNW tips plus others on here.

It's Alclad Aluminium laquer base coat and the "squggles" are acrylic Silver.

Rigging started this week.

Slight mishap as part A41 was missing so I botched a replacement from spare bits. You can't tell unless it's up close.

Was hoping to finish the upper rigging this weekend, which seemed unlikely as i had run out of Bob's Buckles and only ordered some more yesterday. However, Postie just delivered them!!  cheers Bob!!
