Title: Special Hobby 1:32 wicker seat
Post by: Des on March 25, 2015, 09:30:15 AM
This is the resin wicker seat that comes with the new 1:32 scale Special Hobby Bristol M.1c. It is a brilliant seat and I have heard, somewhere, that SH are going to release the seat as a separate product, it should be a big seller.

I hope it does go on sale as a seperate piece, it will look great in my WNW RE8 when I finally get it off my shelf and start on it. How lucky are we that there are so many clever buggers out there who make bits to make great models even better?

It will be interesting to compare this to the Barracuda offering.

This one appears to be 3D printed -- se the print lines at the top of the seat back...

The seat is definitely resin, it is sitting on a resin casting block and there was the tell tale very fine flash between the forward seat frame and in the cross weaving of the actual seat, very easy to remove but typical resin casting.

I wrote to Special Hobby yesterday and received a reply today from Peter Herrmann, Sales Manager at Special Hobby. Firstly, he said that they are changing their website address in a few weeks to  www.specialhobby.eu

He said that they will certainly be marketing the seat as a separate item soon, but they have already released the 1:32 scale Le Rhone 9J as a kit.

I received a second email tonight from Peter Prause from MPM Productions, he also states that they have plans to market the seat separately in the near future, this is all good news.

With regard to the comment from Des about it being resin - it does appear to have 'print lines' on the padding around the back of the seat so could the master(s) have been 3D printed (from which the resin castings are done)?

Russell

That would be my guess...

You are probably correct Russell and Bo, but the supplied resin product is excellent and took very little effort to clean it up. Great news that the seat will be released as a separate item in the near future, apparently they have been receiving a lot of emails from modelers asking for the seat.

Didn't mean to imply there was anything wrong with it being 3D printed (or mastered in 3D printing) ... Just an observation...

Looks fantastic! Another choice for a seat for my WNW Pup, or perhaps their LOOOOONG anticipated Camel  8)

We are starting to be spoilt for choice, this seat plus the Barracuda seats and not forgetting the wicker seat available from Brian Fawcett, we now have no excuses.

I just received my 3 Barracuda seats and I don't know how anything can have finer detail!

i like how the special hobby one has the leather padding on the seat back, i dont have either so i cant judge on the quality of which is nicer, they both look sweet to me as does the brian fawcett ones i have.
