With some RFC-style wicker seats. Multiple styles coming soon. These are NOT available for sale yet, and Barracuda aren't taking pre-orders, but they should be announced shortly. More info should be available to members of their 'Ready Room' Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Barracuda-Studios/317557141608943 (See the 22 March update)

Brilliant, modelers have been hanging out for a decent wicker seat for years, looks like our prayers have been answered, thanks for the info.

Wow! These look so impressive.

I have bought a number of items from them, and they have good service. They already sell a Mercedes D.III/D.IIIa Intake Manifold and Pfalz D.XII Late Exhaust which I have.
-
Oh my, are those EVER NICELY DONE!! 8) 8) Thanks for the good news, I'll be "spring loaded" to grab several when they hit the market place!
Cheers,
Lance

They do some very beautiful resin , use a bit of his WW 2 stuff .

Those seats look AWESOME! I assume at least one of them will work in my WNW Pup.

They're out. :)

Lovely...good price too. -M
-
I will be getting a few of those, and a really good price as well.
Des.

Just ordered both sets! Can't wait to get my hands on 'em. One will go in my Biff and the one with the solid weave will go in my DH.2.
Cheers,
Bud

Lovely stuff thanks for the link!
I want a 1:1 scale wicker seat for my model room, anyone know where I can get one of those too?
:) :)
-
I just ordered both sets as well. One for my Pup, one for my Biff, and one for my SE5a. Now all I gave to do us get around to actually finishing them! ;D
George
-
I am getting a set from Roy and will photograph and write up my impressions here. I think they will be outstanding additions, especially for the DH-2.
-
Ok...this brings into question a question: which is more historically accurate for the SE5a? WnW's SE anyway. They furnish it with a bench like seat which does seem awfully rudimentary....simplistic even...so I gotta ask if replacing it with this excellent wicker seat is messing with any integrity? Dumb question? -M
-
Doug, I'm afraid every reference I've ever seen shows a basic wooden bench.
http://thevintageaviator.co.nz/projects/se-5a-reproduction/se5a-walkaround
I know this is a repro, but it's a TVAL repro and it closely matches a contemporary photo on page 30 of the Datafile and the RAF Museum's SE5a illustrated on page 31. Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings. The Barracuda seats would look good in the Biff, the DH9, the DH2, the RE8 and possibly the Ninak. Sorry, George, but the Pup and Tripe used aluminum seats.
I feel bad, now. I hear balloons popping all around the world. :'(
Cheers,
Bud
-
Pop pop pop. :o
That's ok, I have a Biff and enough other planes that used wicker seats. They will get used. :D
I was wondering about the Pup because all the reference I've seen use aluminum seats as you say.

A question I have is for which aircraft would the high-backed seat in set 32234 be appropriate? From what I can see in the various WNW instructions, those using that style of wicker seat use the low-backed version. Or could it vary between individual aircraft?
The Barracuda seats look incredible, and I'll be ordering a few, but I wish he'd have made the seats in the dual set available separately.

Hi Bud and Doug, on another thread I mentioned digging around in a storage hut at East Fortune and finding various WWI bits and pieces.
This included a wicker seat exactly like the lower backed Barracuda offering, which was labelled as coming from an SE 5a. So I don't think they all necessarily had the bench arrangement.
I plan a trip back down there soon and will try to get more info.
Sandy
-
That would be very cool, Sandy. I'd love it if it were so. I do like the look of a wicker seat in a model. It would certainly put the model industry on it's ear. Every SE5/SE5a kit I've ever seen provides a bench type seat.
I forgot to mention that those seats would be appropriate for the Camel and the Bristol M1c. Also, the BE series, if WNW would stop teasing us and get that one released. I'm trying to figure out how to modify one for the Snipe, which has a low backed open weave seat. Hmmmm.
Cheers,
Bud

Yes, the BEs had wicker. I am planning a scratch build of a BE2c if WNW doesn't produce on before I get to it.

Now, that I'd love to see, George, although I'm hoping you won't have to. Your Pup has certainly provided you with the experience for such a project.

Hi Guys.
Roy from Barracuda here.
As I understand it, the wicker seats could be ordered from a catalog per the individual pilots preference, and mounted in just about any aircraft. The open back seats were found in the AGS catalog.
HTH Roy
-
Well, well, well, how about that? Thanks Roy, that's excellent information...and good enough for me...I'll be getting one to drop into my SE. -M
-
Couple of references: http://www.johnsshawaviation.co.uk/wordpress/sopwith-camel-f1-2/sopwith-camel-reconstruction/sopwith-camel-seat/ and http://wickerworks.weebly.com/wicker-pilot-seat.html
The first link includes the page listing the wicker seats from the 1917 AGS/Aircraft Supplies Company Catalogue. So, theoretically, any pilot *could* order a replacement wicker seat, and given the amount of personalization seen among WWI aircraft, it seems plausible that you could add it to any RFC aircraft. If you're going for historical accuracy though, check your references.
As for the two open-backed seats... the shorter seat is based on the dimensions for pilot's seats, particularly in scout aircraft. The taller seat is more typical of observers' seats.

I guess my balloon's been unpopped! ;D
Thanks Roy!

The topic line made me chuckle. Barracuda Studios are not going WWI. Roy has been producing WWI resin details for years. His Albatros wheel corrections in 1/72nd and 1/48th are superb, and he's produced great Albatros seats in 1/48th for a long time as well.
Of course, there are a good many here for which 1/32nd and/or WNW are the only things that exist. In that case the topic line rings true. :) ;)

What?! There is something other than Wingnuts?? Next you're going to tell me the world isn't flat, and that the Earth goes around the Sun! Crazy talk!! :o ;D

Hey, I never said "for the first time ever". :p

Just ordered one each of the three seats, if they are as good as the photo shows I will be buying more.

Des, The BR32234 Wicker Seats are stupendous!! Perfect replacements for the seats in the Hobbycraft Clerget & LeRhone Camels.
I'm glad they come without belts, as molded in belts would interfere with the exquisite wicker detail, and allows the builder to introduce variation in color and positioning. Now, I'll have to order the "short back" seats for my Nieuport 11/16's and DH.2's!!!
Regards,Rob
-
Glad you like 'em.
And (shhhhh! I'm not supposed to be saying this) the smaller scale versions are one step closer to reality.

Bumped because there should be some interesting news surfacing at the Nats. :-X

Ooooh, man! I'm tingling with anticipation!

Wow these something else.I wish these were available when I was struggling to build up a wicker seat for my Camel.

Hmmmm... not sure what news surfaced at the Nats, so I'll only say, think smaller. (soon)

Barracuda Studios now has the wicker seats available in both 1/72 and 1/48 scale. Shown on heir website under new releases.

That's excellent news!

Just ordered a few sets. I must have at least 20 1/48 kits on which they would be acceptable. Multiple Sopwiths, Bristols, BE's and Aircos. I can foresee a long string of very boring PC10/12 in my future. ;)
Cheers,
Bud

PC10/PC12 sure gets a bad rap. :'( Although it's all basically olive drab-ish and not the wild German palette, the aircraft that it's on is pretty varied and interesting, to me anyway. The armour guys spend a lifetime making olive drab/sand colored vehicles and they do some very cool stuff.
That's my defense of PC10. :)
George
-
............................ already a little bit of a dark thing, this PC10/12 ::)
-
I have just ordered two sets of their newly released wicker seat with cushions to suit the Wingnuts Camel, the seat and two types of cushions look very impressive. Have a look here http://barracudacals.com/proddetail.php?prod=BR32332
Des.

I've ordered three sets as well, I hope they are up to the excellent standard of the earlier issued products. Mine are confirmed shipped and "enroute to destination :)
Cheers,
Lance
-
I have half a dozen sets of their previous wicker seats so these new ones will be a real asset, I like the idea of the 2 different seat cushions. The new seats will not be restricted to the Camel, they could be adapted to suit many aircraft types.

Agree, I bought several of their 1/48 wicker seats in both variations and the correct Albatros wheel sets. Very nice castings.
