I have always wanted to build Gabriel's D.VII. As far as I'm concerned, it is one of the most handsome of the D.VII schemes. The combination of the streaked fuselage, 4 color lozenge wings and colorful personal marking make it extremely appealing to me. I also find Willi's personal history interesting. He built his own aeroplanes prior to the war and in 1915 he joined FA34 flying two seaters. In fact, he scored his first victory at the controls of a two seater. He soon transferred to Jasta 11 where he added 10 more to his score. He and his commander, Herman Goering shared a mutual dislike (which, alone, makes him a hero in my book) and Goering had him withdrawn from combat, leaving his score at 11. He served in the Luftwaffe in WWII and died at the age of 75 in 1968.
Here is his bus.

Excellent work as always!!

Bud,
Certainly one of the nicest, if not the nicest 1/48th DVIIs I have seen built! Like you I Love Gabriels scheme and also his disdain for Herr Goring! Your use of the Berman PE cowls and other PE is outstanding! A first class build that was a joy to follow!

I like it very much. You are right - streaking combined with 4colour-Loz and those colourful stripes make a really pretty combination.
Congratulations.

Bravo, Bud! An amazing job, my friend. If my models
even approached yours, I would be over the moon!
What a great colour scheme! Thanks for sharing your
talents. :D

Thanks for sharing this piece of history, Bud. I have also started liking Gabriel. And you model is a fine tribute to him. Indeed, very appealing in this colourful livery.

So , are you trying to compete with me on who can break off the under carriage the most ?
Beautiful job on this kite Bud :)

Thank you so much, my friends! This is my first broken u/c, T. I've got a long way to go to catch up with you. ;) I'm afraid there's no competition.
Cheers,
Bud

Very nice! Based on your work I will have to get some of the Berman photoetched sets before my next D.VII build! I would love to do this scheme but have decided since I have so many D.VII's I will probably just do PLM winners from now on... Perhaps...

Excellent build and what a wonderful colour scheme. It takes a really skilled modeller to bring that off and you have done so very well indeed. Many congratulations.

Fantastic build - nicely done! Always liked this scheme

Joining in a bit late here (not been around for a while) but what another little gem you have put together - your DVII looks stunning!
What next on your workbench, mate?

Thanks, guys! Dave, I've got the Macchi M.5 on the bench as part of the Seaplane group build. Working on the interior and should have some pics up in a few days. I also dug out the Copper State Nieuport 6H and might add that to the group build, as well.
Cheers,
Bud

Amigo 3 chiming in, ditto Amigo 2's comments all the way. ( I did the same scheme in the '70s with an Aurora kit should take a few up dated shots with a digital camera.)
