Hello everybody,
I have just finished my last project :
the Morane Saulnier type L « parasol » n°27 flown by Jean Navarre.
1915 / 2015 100 years ... (this way ODF doing things will let me timme for the other WWI project I have
1915 is to my eyes a fondamental year. It's there were war become industrial and when really start the XX. Century.
This will be true a little bit later in aviation world (end of 1915 / beginning of 1916)
In the time which concern the type L, all is to be invented.
Thid is the third Navarre's planeI do as this timeline shows it

The first Navarre's afectation is at the MF8 between september antd odecember of 1914, equiped with Maurice Farman 7

(may one day's integral scratch?)
He is fired into Saint cyr for e new affectation.
Navarre went to Airacoublay to be formed to parasol plane , wich have reputatio to be dangerous.
Seeing him flying Roland Garos said : « if he survives i will be the best »
here 'is this beautiful autochrome of a parasol :

At last he receive his affectation ay MS12 squadron.
The relationship with his superior lieutenant de Bernis is good. This one know how to manage the boys to reach the better of him.

During his period in the MF8, Navarre met a german plane ; this one as it was usual at this time came along to salute him. Navarre was a warrior, not a gentleman : he took his rifle and shot the three bullet he had ; the german went away...
in the MS12 he shoot down a german but this one crashed in his land...
At last the first of April with Robert in board as observer un the MS n°27 he cruse e german plane.
For those who read french, here are the Navarre word to narrate his first victory

he tells haw he stay as closer as he could from the german plane and attack him by downside

this victory is the first one os the MS12 ant the third of the french army...
Navarre won for this adventure the médaille militaire, and Robert who was officier, the légion d'honneur
here is the captureted enemy plane, an Aviatik BII (?)
It's a shame it does'nt exist at 1/48

I my pics Navarre appears threee different planes.
The n°27 seems to be that one
(http://nsm08.casimages.com/img/2015/02/11//15021104455518634312953732.jpg) (http://www.casimages.com/img.php?i=15021104455518634312953732.jpg)
the rudder doesn't carry french flag ans I asl myself if it hat roundels upsode. Most of pics I saw doesn't have.
As it was quite representative of the war beginnang planes, I decided to represent it without roundels
the day after, Navarre's friend , « Pivolo » shot down another german plane , but landing to make the pilot prisonier, he crasched is plane...
it seems to be that one, with roudels...but he also have tricolor flag in the rudder.

you have done an absolutely superb job with this model Xan, the build and the overall finish is superb, the rigging is brilliant and as I said in you build log the oil staining is the best I have ever seen, congratulations on an excellent build, I look forward to seeing your BE.2

Congratulations, Xan! She is absolutely stunning and, without a doubt, the best MS type L I have ever seen.

very nice xan, i enjoyed your posts. please post again when you build your be2c
-
I love what you've done with your MS type L. It's hard to believe it's 1/48 in this time where 1/32 is becoming so prominent. I can't wait to see what you do with the BE2c, one of my favorite early WWI airplanes. I have that same Roden kit and will be watching closely.

Thank you for your brilliant presentation, Xan. The

very interesting indeed. I also am looking forward to
your return with the B.E.2c. Thanks for sharing your
talents!

Xan,
I enjoyed your build thread on so many levels. I not only learned more about Navarre, but also about Moranes and some techniques! Superb craftsmanship, and I'm looking forward to your next build.

Great choice for your next model, Xan. I've got one in the stash and cleaned up and dry-fitted some of the parts. In fact, had Des gone for a two-seater group build, then this would have been my choice.
Check out the undercarriage parts very carefully though. While still on the sprue I noticed one piece had already fractured at the point at which it takes the axle. Roden have a very customer-friendly part replacement service (in my experience) and sent me the relevant part of the sprue. However, on closer inspection I noticed that it too looked about to go. When I get round to it I'll ask for another.
Best wishes
Nigel
