Hi All,
It's been some time since I had a go at anything in 1/72 scale, let alone from World War II, but I have to admit that the new Airfix Boulton Paul Defiant is so tempting!
Best wishes

Hmm, an Airfix Boulton Paul Defiant, Very cool model, I understand the temptation, but WWII? I'm worried. Maybe an intervention is in order. You're amongst friends here, you can get through this. Slowly turn the other way and "just say no". ;)

Nigel,
Airfix's new releases certainly are looking better and better with each release, I just wish they'd redo their Re-8, but it seems unlikely at this point. (They quietly cancelled their announced WWI kits announced previously.) In any event, I think there's a thread over at the 72nd Aircraft forum* that goes into some problems with the turret.
It's great that you've come back to the one true scale, no matter the period. ;)

Thank you, George (?)! Just what I needed - a sympathetic but firm talking to. It's back to the WNW SE5a which I've just started. Get thee behind me Defiant!
Best wishes

I hear you Nigel. For me it's the new Airfix Folland Gnat in 1/48. Already ordered, and now waiting on aftermarket decals for a Yellow Jacket!😄

Nigel,
If I can break away from our favorite topic for a brief change and do a 1:350 Scale Royal Canadian Navy Corvette (as a gift for a relative) you should be allowed a Defiant. They say "a change is better then a rest"!
Cheers,
Lance

Well guys I don't even dare tell you what I also do, apart from ships which I've made for years.
That Canadian corvette sounds nice.

Go on and spill the beans Roy, you've already opened the can.

Maybe it's serendipity, but there was an old Alec Guinness/Dirk Bogarde film on the telly a few days ago here called "Damn the Defiant". I don't think it was sponsored by Airfix!

Y'all just crack me up.
Nigel, I'm planning on finishing off a 1/48 Ki 43 as well as a Sherman III and a 90mm Samurai in time for show coming up in April so I say go for it....but can't you wait until they do one in a real scale? 1/32 WWI aero has definitely become my default oeuvre in model art but polishing off old builds is good for the soul. (Either that or finally saying "to hell with this thing, it will never be finished", pouring a nice cold beer, lighting a fire on the grill, setting the offending model upon the pyre, and siting back to inhale the small of Styrene in the Mourning.)

Speaking of unfinished kits, I'm still doing battle with my Wingnut Wings Roland D.VI. Problems are my own. I have had to scratch a few items that I messed up on the first time around. However even though the lozenge decals are really poor I plan to finish up the little bits and call it done.
I also need to re-rig my SE5a and add the finishing bits to that one as well. Then I will be caught up to date with my wingnut's kits. That is of course after I finish the Roland C.II.
But 90% of my small stash is going on the block. I plan to focus on Wingnut Wings kits and maybe a WWI Battle Cruiser or two.

I don't seem to be able to keep focus on one particular thing. On the bench at the moment I have a Tamiya FW190, some 15mm Napoleonic French Infantry and an Albatros. Variety is what keeps me going. :)

I feel your pain, Nigel! A few months ago I sinned and was led astray by this...

Since then I have done my penance and promised (sort-of) to stick with my WWI aeroplane obsession. ;) ;D
Cheers,
Ernie :)

Beautiful 190! Looks like many of us stray from time to time. ;) ;D

Nice Butcher Bird Ernie. Variety is the spice of life so build what catches your interest.
