Completed after five weeks of intensive but absolutely pleasant build - my vision of Kissenberth's Roland D.VIa from the time he was the leader of Jasta 23b.
The kit was enhanced by Taurus Models bits for the engine, some scratch details in the cockpit and the engine and, last by not least - Aviattic losenge decals, generously gifted by Richard - many thanks for this!

I thank you, everybody for your very kind comments and such a welcome to my Roland.
Epeeman, I use 0.12 fishing line, S-Force Trabucco, very dark blue. In fact, the more I look at my rigging, the more I think of painting this line with some sort of steel colour,
-
Beautiful. I love every part of it.

Thank you very much, Ed, Petrov and Ernie.
-
Prz,
Again, a really stunning build. Congratulations.
Now....Over on the Baron's AEG build, there is a comparison of the AEG wingspan vs: an Albatros wingspan. Would you be willing to set this Roland down next to the Felixstowe wing for comparison? If it's convenient to do so of course!
Cheers,
Michael

Hello Przemol,
Superb model! :) I like it very much as Otto Kissenberth is one of my fafourit pilots.
I met one of his best friends Herrn Theodor Rumple who was with Otto together in Jasta 16 and 23.
He described Otto Kissenberth as a very collegial warm hearted person who lead his men by motivation and personal example.
If you want to know more about Otto Kissenberth, the book of Winfried Bock and myself will be published end of the year:
Royal Bavarian Jagdstaffel 23
300 photos
65 colour profiles with a lot of new and unknown colour profiles of the aircraft
Flight log of Lt. Fritz Roeth
Personal testimonies
Combat reports
Official German documents.
Many greetings
Bruno

Thank you, Michael, for your kind words. I will take a photo you ask for at the nearest possibility. What I can say now, is that the span ratio between F.2A and Roland is not twice as between AEG and Albatros, but thrice!
Thank you, Bruno, for your interest in my model. It is truly thrilling to realise, that you had a chance to get in touch with someone who knew so well the pilot whose aircraft I modelled. Thank you also for the information about the book to be published. I will surely like to buy it. In this particular case it is so sad that Kissenberth survived the atrocities of the war only to die in mountains a few years later... Generally, I am very much interested in the life stories of pilots who flew the prototypes of my models. Many thanks for your comments!
-
OK, Prz, I look forward to it!
I agree with your thought about Herr K'berth sadly dying in a climbing accident after surviving the war. But, when I read that he was, indeed, a climber, and took into consideration the Edelweiss on his aircraft, I wasn't surprised to read Bruno's report of him being a "collegial and warm hearted person". During ill-spent youth as a singer, I was lucky enough to spend a bit of time in the Alps in Bavaria and Austria and always found the people to be as warm as the sun and so welcoming. There was always laughter....and when stayed at any of the mountain huts there was plenty of singing and good Bier! It is very easy for me to imagine Kissenberth in that situation.
So, again, thanks for sharing this really gorgeous build and, thank you, Bruno, for your additional information.
Cheers from NYC,
Michael

What a masterpiece! a really impressive model because the weathering is just perfect. You don't even notice it at first sight, then it catches your eyes, along with all details and the warm color of wood inside.
-
really like the way all the small detail shows through the black, proves what a great kit this is when done to this level.
Roy
-
As usual the next beautiful masterpiece. :D

P.S. I was very pleased to see you personally and shake hands.

My pleasure, Michael, you are welcome.
I have read some time ago a verbal description of size comparison of Felix ailerons with Pup wings. But it is better seen than said, isn't it? ;)
