I have this notion of doing a few out of the box builds and something different . So I pulled this kit of the stash . Not a subject one really see's being built . There was a bit of hype when it was released and then it just seemed to fade off .
A while back I saw a profile of this aircraft in British markings painted PC 10 top side with light grey underside and if memory is right battleship grey cowl ? Now I wish I saved that site ...
This will be my first SP kit , haven't built one yet but for the most part folks give them good marks .

cool terri, like to see this get built.

Me and Jacek both built this kit last year. It is an ill fitting brute and has some accuracy issues too.

Looking forward to seeing your magic on this one Terri!

Good luck with build, Terri. It's nice to see a relatively unusual model being tackled.
Like you, I'm looking to build something 'out of the box' soon, but I can't decide what.
Best wishes and seasonal greetings
Nigel

Hi Terri,
This seems to be very nice. All the best of luck with the kit and the build. I will follow this one.
Kind regards

I agree with what you wrote Rob Hard.
I wish you good luck and a lot of patience.
Jacek

Scott , when did I get this from you , 4 years ago ...
Rob , thanks for the link to Jacek build . Nice on having the heads up with any fit issues and difficulties along the way .
Thanks Rick , Nigel , Patrick and Jacek

Great choice of subject Terri, good luck with your build.

Jean Navarre died on this kind of plane after the war , training to cross down the paris' arc of triumph in the great victory parade in 1919 to protest because air force was not allowed to fly in!!!
I will have to mount it, so I will follow yours very closely
good luck, it doesn't seems a very easy model to mount...
and merry chrismas!

Thanks Des and Xan :)
Progress will be posted soon ...

I've got this one in the stash. I'm actually tempted to do a follow along just to see if I can achieve your results by following your methods. I built the old tool Eduard SSW D.III some years back and was amazed at what you were able to do with it compared to my results.

Work has started on this project with freeing some parts and test fitting and clean up . Nothing worth of taking photo's of this stage until I can a bit paint on stuff .
Terri

Go, Terri...GO!!!
Like the others, this will be fun to watch. Can't wait to see what you do with this one.

Hello Terri,
Beautiful French plane. Rarely assembled.

Just now finding this thread....looking forward to following, Miss Terri!
Neat looking airplane!

Thanks guy's , I hope I don't disappoint you folks with this one .
So work first began by freeing some of the parts . Fuselage halves were up first and the air intakes cleaned out ready for the next stage . Flying surfaces are cleaned up but I'm not sure if I want to free the control surfaces and have them positioned . The cowl needs a bit of filler and clean up finished . Engine got it's pushrod and for this I used .3mm brass rod . Not much will be seen so no further detailing will be done . Part of the cockpit is ready for new bracing . Kit parts don't fit . Wheels are also ready too go and I don't like these split wheel affair when it comes to sanding and I don't have suitable replacements in the parts bin .

The silly buggers at Special Hobby put the locating pins for the horizontal tail surfaces in the elevators!!!
-
Great progress Terri. You are doing fine!
Kind regards
Patrick

Thanks guy's ! With this being a free weekend I find myself with a fair bit of bench time so work will continue :)
Jamie , they sure did !
Terri

Really Terrific work on the cowl and engine Terri!
RAGIII
-
Very great work Terri.
Martin
-
Looking great so far Terri, press on!
Warren
-
I'm pressing on Warren , base coat for the wood grain has dried 24 hours and I'm doing the graining this evening .
Terri
-
Progress has been slow . I'm also working on a Spitfire as well but here is an update .
For the wood effect I first sprayed Tamiya wooden deck tan with just the edges sprayed with Tamiya Linoleum deck brown . Once dried I then used Tamiya red brown for the grain effect over coat with Tamiya clear orange . Instrument panel got the same treatment . The brezels are from let over Tom's modelworks PE . I didn't feel like paint this detail . Would have gotten brass paint all over the place . The seat was done in the same manner using Tamiya paints with a few less coats of the clear orange . Seat belts have a coat of Tamiya Buff waiting for the weathering . Rudder bar and control column are coated with Vallejo Black . The engine is hand painted using Testors metalizer . This dried up years ago , but with a little lacquer thinner I can use it for dry brushing metal coats .

Beautiful job so far, T! Lookin' sooo good!
Cheers,
Bud
-
I think it looks great Terri, I've never had any luck trying to brush paint Tamiya paints. What did you thin the red brown with for the wood grain effect?
Warren
-
Terri,
Sorry but I seemed to have missed this update. Your wood grain and cockpit are AWESOME!
RAGIII
-
Thanks guys ! I'm working on the side framing . Kit parts don't fit so this needs to be scratched and the lower part of the instrument panel interferes with this and I still need to paint the framing on the fuselage sides .
Warren , I will either use Tamiya X-20 thinner or their lacquer thinner . When ever I brush paint Tamiya paints I always dip the brush in thinner first . Really never had to many troubles with their brands .
Terri
-
Very beautiful work Terri.
Martin
-
Thanks Terri, I'll try their thinner next time. I guess I'm just too old school and remember dipping my brush in the paint itself with no problems. As a friend of mine put it once, Tamiya paint doesn't like itself.
Warren
-
yes, interior is very well done, congratulations
Xan
-
Really nice work on the wooden parts, Terri. Like
Warren, I have not had much luck with the Tamiya
paints, but will try your method. Thanks for the tip. :)
Cheers,
Ernie :)
-
Thanks guy's ! ;D
Warren , Ernie . For about 6 years now I have been using Tamiya paints and other products and had to adapt to their behavior .
I used to use Testors Model Master paints but it is getting harder to find . Most shops now carry acrylic paints . I don't thin them either with water . I find that when spraying I don't get good atomization of the paint and will have some what a surface with a ruff texture .
Their lacquer thinner works very well with the acrylic line and you get a really fine smooth finish either brush or airbrush . Work with them and see what works best for you . They aren't every one favorite .

Progress report star date 1245.56.98.7
Holidays are a great way to spend it in front of the bench and computer ! I ended up looking online to see if I can find the profile for I don't recall the tail numbers and I didn't make a note of this . I did however found some wonderful pic's of this type ending in a few more details to be added . So much for out of the box !
The framework is not correct at the front of the cockpit , since this won't be seen I'm not worried about it . Rudder bar as toe straps and control cables . Throddle I made using plastic bits and PE from the parts pin . Hand pump was fashioned out of plastic rods as well as the control rods for the upper wing controls . Frame was relaced , kit parts don't fit and are over scaled . Trigger cables for the guns and that is it for the details .
Guns are also ready for their weathering once the paint has fully dried .

Thank-you Des and Rick for the kind comments . 8)
Todays goal will be getting the fuselage button up and start the weathering on the engine and do some more work on my spitfire .
Terri

Nice and delicate detail, Terri. Watching with interest! ;)

Brilliant work in the pit, T, and the guns look fantastic.

Great job, Terri, the woodgrain looks awesome!

Ondra

Thank Ondra :)
Fuselage is button up with tail feathers in place and details . Carb intake tubs I wipe up using left over PE trees ( thin brass ) .
Landing gear is built awaiting a few details and the engine still needs another wash but it is basically done . Can almost start getting some paint on her ...

Thanks Martin :)
Terri

Work continued on the landing gear and I should have paid better attention to test fitting , the axles aren't long enough ! :( Will added some stock rod later on .
Also had a mishap when removing one of the accelerating rod for the controls it broke, one piece flew south while the other went north and had to make a new one out of contrail strut rod and the one piece still left on the part tree and good old Tamiya tape , love that stuff !
Other than that every thing is ready for primer , shading and paint ! I did spend about three hours cleaning the struts , man for a small aircraft she sure has a lot of struts !
-
:)

Tremendous and amazing workmanship of all those lil`parts!
I'll stay tuned here.
Did you using copperwire for the suspension?

Dirk

Terri,
The gear looks terrific! What did you use to make the bungee cords?
RAGIII
-
Very terrific work and paint to this little parts, Terri.
Martin

Good job!!!
It's very fine ! ;)
Arnaud
-
You have done excellent work so far Terri, I will ask as well, what did you use for the bungee cord, the colour looks perfect for the bungee.
Des.
-
Hi Terri!
You used some transparent blue on that engine, right?
How about some other touches with dark red and maybe green as well?
Ciao
Iwik
-
Thanks guy's !
I do apologize for the lack of up dates . Have a lot of other stuff going on taking me away from the bench .
For the bungee cord I use sewing thread .Not sure if it is the right colour . Photo's of re-stored AI show the bungee to be an off white .
Iwik , I 'm waiting for my order of paint to come in at the hobby shop . I need the clear red for another project as well . Yes so far there is a bit of clear blue and smoke as well . The red will take it to the next level but I'm not sure of the green ...perhaps yellow ...
Terri

Masking for the per-shading is finally done , now for the per-shading itself ....
-
Nice work with the masking Terri, always time consuming but well worth the effort.

I agree with Des, on that one! But this sure looks precise, Terri!
Neat to see this coming together!

Very well done Terri.
Martin

The masking looks first rate. Looking forward to seeing what you spray on top of it.
Chris
-
Thank-you every one for your comments :)
I'm shooting for this weekend to start laying paint . We are having beautiful weather and the yard needs cleaning .....
Terri
-
My apologize for the lack of up-dates on this build . Only thing done since the last up-date is the per-shading done , but the yard is cleaned and I finished off my Spitfire . Still will be a few delays with this build . I'm doing a build review of Eduards Bf-109E-7 for Aeroscale . Not a bad kit either !
I will try and have at least something to show soon ...
Terri
-
Good grief, Terri, you're a busy Gal! Just catching up with your
progress on the Morane, and you are doing a terrific job, even
with the other "distractions". Looking forward to the next updates. :D
Cheers,
Ernie :)
-
Very fine work on the masking Terri. I like the Moranes a lot. Well done!
Kind regards
Patrick
-
Looking good Terri! Your masking looks excellent.
RAGIII
-
Thanks guy's :)
I haven't done a thing on this build since the last up date . Still working on the build review of the 109 for Aeroscale and started another WW 2 subject :-X which is putting up on hell of a fight .
Will be back on this soon and will have some painting progress for you all .
Terri
-
Looking on the bright side, there is no best before date on plastic. ;) ;D
Good luck with the projects, Terri. :)
Cheers,
Ernie :)

Hi Terri!!!
Once again Im late to this party... that is damn good effort on Special Hobby kit - brilliant all the way through!!! ;)
Cheerio
Lukas
-
Wow , it has been almost two years since I started this project and she is back on the bench ! Pulled it out of the stash the other night , hope to get some colour on her by the weekend !
Terri
-
That's great to hear, keep it up!
I thought that I had a lost weekend or something because I was looking though all of the posts thinking,"I've never seen this before.....??" Then I realized what the dates of the posts were! I'm still new here. ;)
Steve
-
I missed this first time round too - really looking forward to seeing this one finished as it is an early type and not seen often as a model.
Stephen.
-
Awesome job Terri, you are staying busy. Look forward to your next post.
-
Steve , no worries at all . I've done the same thing too . Ja , Stephen . It isn't an aircraft we see very often being built . Then again it really hasn't been kitted by many either . Thank-you Juan , not really busy but shelf queens are piling up and I do need to get them finished .
Terri
-
Here is the wings with the per-shading done ready for the next step ... Colour !
Terri
-
Fuselage is also ready to go for it's colour coats .
Terri
-
Looks really slick Terri!
Dan
-
Your pre shading looks excellent Terri! I don't have much patience for all of the masking so I tend to put it off, or not do it at all. :-[
RAGIII
-
Awesome Terri, your hard work will pay off in the end. Looking forward to your painting update.
-
Your preshading looks fantastic, Terri! Can't wait to see it with the camo over it.
Cheers,
Bud
-
I am like Rick Terri - I do not bother with the pre-shading, so my models all look as though they have just come out of the factory! Yours will look greta when the top coats are on.
Stephen.
-
It was a weekend of airbrushing and not much assembly taking place .
Since I'm doing this one in British markings I sprayed the lower surfaces of the wings with Tamiya deck tan and underside of the fuselage got a couple of thin coats as well as the landing strut assembly and the wheels . Also got the wood grain on the struts done and started the clear orange . Still have to spray the other side .
Terri
-
Awesome! The pre-shading looks fantastic!
Cheers,
Bud
-
Great update Terri, your pre shading has paid off. Looking forward to this one coming together.
-
This is looking superb, Terri! Nice paint shades and great attention to detail... lovely progress! Regards, Marc
-
That painting is first class in every way. This is going to be a little stunner when it is finished.
Stephen.
-
Painting work out great.
In my model, some struts I had to do because they were too short.
Jacek
-
Well done T! The preshading resulted in an excellent finish on the undersides! The struts are looking great!
RAGIII
-
Thanks guys for the very kind comments . They are very much appreciated :)
More airbrushing will commence this weekend and should take care of this part of the build . There is a lot of fittings to paint on the struts . Not sure on whether to do this by hand or pull out the masking tape .
Thanks for the heads up Jacek on the length of the struts , I got contrail strut in the stash if need be .
Terri
-
We got paint and decals !
The bottom was masked off along with the cowl areas and the PC was applied . Once dried , battleship grey followed . Decals are from the spare box . Still have to seal the decals before anymore weathering can be done .
Terri
-
Wow Terri, you've been busy. Enjoying your builds.

Looking terrific Terri! This one is going to be another beauty for your collection!!
RAGIII

A superb result so far Terri, lovely paint work.

Well done, Terri
Cheers,

-
Thanks guys , progress is moving . It has been clear coated again and ready for a few washes . and out comes the masking tape again for some more shading . I still have to paint the details on the struts . There are a few reinforcement bands to paint .
Bud , this scheme is fictional . ;)

Hello, Terri.
