Well, well; the only interest in building the D.VIb is to get others schemes than the D.VIa. Otherwise the two kits are the same except ailerons, elevators and very little change in the engine.
Then i have chosen the scheme of Emil Schape's aircraft; original and colorful.
Decals are from Aviattic; excellents as usual....! I will make a mix of 4 & 5 lozenges patterns for wing and actuators as quite often described.
Figures are from Wing cockpit. I have to change left hand and to refine the right one of the mechanic. I'm about unpainting him as i'm not very satisfied.
Cheers
Pierre

I will watch this with interest.

Beautiful work thus far Pierre, and a very attractive colour scheme. What reference(s) have this aircraft's details, I'd like to know more about it?

Hello to all,
As good as I like !! :D
A very amazing painting. You're a Jedi Master with a light-airbrush !!!

Lance,
Not so much references; one picture on WNW site (with a close-up on machine guns), one profile by R.N Pearson in 1999 and two illustrations by Mark Karvon. Not so much also on Emil Schape.

Truly magnificent work, Pierre! I'm so delighted to see you doing this scheme. I see you've reached the same research dead end that I have with this scheme and it's pilot. This is one I've wanted to do for a very long time in 1/48 scale. Now you've inspired me to move the start date up on this one.
Cheers,

Thanks guys
Bud,
There must be at last one picture of her with the whole fuselage. The mystery remains for the shape of the ailerons and elevators

I've been unable to find one so far. I'll contact Bob Pearson and ask him if he know of any other photos. I'd like to know how he determined that it was a b model and not an a. By the way, Pierre, I love your idea for a diorama. I would never have thought of a headless man choking the pilot. ;)

Hello Gents
While the headless mechanic went back to the paint workshop a little step forward with the plates of the engine (dry fit) and some more weathering.

Nextstep with the undercarriage.
I have chosen to not follow the profile as there are no photographic evidence for the yellow wheel cover. I have chosen the most used on the Roland i.e. lozenges pattern. i used again the fantastics decals from Aviattic.
Dry fit on her before the complete weathering.
Cheers

Very nice...great job on painting the fuselage!

Really beautiful. The aging effect is great.

Pierre I really like the wheel covers with losange, definitely better to my eyes than plain yellow, great job my friend, really challenging and outrageous! Cheers , Lou Boumian. 8) 8)

Again, admiring you weathering, Pierre, my eye is again drawn to the weathering around the cowling. Your rendition of the effects of engine heat on the wood is brilliant.

The wheels are not bad too, you are a master!

Thanks for pointing that out, Bud. A newbie like me would not have realized what that was without your sharp eye guiding it.
Yeah, man, it is that sort of attention to detail that makes a very fine build into a great one.
Bravo!
Michael
-
Thanks Gents for your kinds comments.
As I'm a carpet worker (initiated will understand) some very little hairs are always flying. I removed all those who were glued to the cover of the wheel..... I need then to use some washes and pigments for harmonizing the weathering on the undercarriage

Good job Pierre !

Many thanks buddies !!
No time for modeling today.
just one picture done during the day with a white backdrop to check the coherency of the colors

Pierre, I just came across your build and I am absolutely
stunned with the beautiful Roland! Your wood painting
is sublime. The weathering is perfection. You are making
a beautiful little aeroplane even better. I am anxious to
see the next updates. Wow!:D

Thanks buddies !!!
Next step with the engine. Ignition heads are not fitted otherwise the engine will not enter in the fuselage correctly.

Wow - really fantastic result here - great choice of schemes as well - never seen this one before!
-
Many thanks Gents !!
This scheme should be the one of Emil Schape.
Now it's time to provide her some stuff to fly...Propeller and spinner done. Painting of propeller is time consummating (and with a lot of jammy dog's tape) but it's worth as it's one of the "eye catcher part". Prince august acrylics followed by oil paint and yellow varnish.

Have to do a new propeller as the dark stripes were in the wrong way. Kits building is always a lesson of humility....

Wonderful work on the propeller, Pierre. An excellent model, to be sure!
I look forward to the next update.

I just came across this build today, and have to say that it's one superb job. I've also wanted to do this scheme but the documentation is pretty thin. You really set a pretty high bar with this build!
-
Truly brilliant work on the prop, Pierre! Just icing on an already delicious cake!
Cheers,
Bud
-
Waouh! what a propeler...
sorry for the borring question, but could you explain the technique you use please?
Xan
-
Thanks !!
Xan it's not boring at all. It's a pleasure to share ;)
First of all a thin layer of "white skull" primer (citadel).
Then thin coat of Prince August air (sand: 75)
Then masking (for the first prop I used Jammy Dog tape, for the second I cut elliptic shape directly in Tamiya tape). It' the longest stage.
Then a coat of Prince August Air (burnt earth:40).
Then a mix of oil paint (ocre de chair, terre de Sienne, ombre brûlée) diluted with oil siccative to harmonize colors.
Finally I used yellow or/and orange Tamiya veener.
Cheers
Pierre
-
Beautiful and really well thought out work, Pierre. Bravo.
May I ask what you're using for a pattern for the elliptical shapes?
Cheers from NYC,
Michael

thank you Pierre, and for the form of dark and light parts, you use a template ?

P.S: Xan i just draw the on paper then cut a mask.

Simply amazing !!! I had a dream painting like you. ;)

what can I add?
If I had to make a choise the best I like are the weels
another great model!
whar willl be the next ?
Happy new year Pierre
-
Many thanks Gents for your kind comments !!
Richard: i will make a little pause with kits now. i will probably paint the mechanic as soon as i find the good color for the uniform. I was not very satisfied with my "feldgrau". i would like also make a decent base for showing the models, and then i would like finally to build and paint your fuel cart.....
For the next one, nothing is decided yet. I have many wishes but all have pro and cons....I would like to build a Felix, or a Gotha but i should assume to do just one kit in 2015 as i'm not a very fast kit maker. I would like also to do something for Telford's contest... So i have to decide...and wait a little bit to see if any surprise is coming in the mean time....
Cheers
Pierre

Just gorgeous.

Hello to all,
Pour Telford, fais un Gotha en vol qui bombarde Londres et tu casseras la baraque... ;)
For Telford, build a flying Gotha upper London et you'll be best of show.
