Title: Bristol F-2b Fighter Wingnut Wings 1/32
Post by: gruson on December 10, 2014, 09:49:59 PM
Hello,
Time to build the Roland C.II WnW kit.

I show you a montage which is nearly finished, the Bristol F-2b

The realisation and painting of the cockpit is more than pleasant because it is particularly precise and complete. Most of the elements are painted « wooden style ».

The engine is then painted with the different coulours recommended by the userguide, and dirtied with dark pigments and brown wash.

The XF 68 colour was suggested by the userguide but I chose to use it mixed with a little brun/rouge XF 10. It’s generously sprayed on the whole kit. Then, so as to nuance the colour, reliefs have been sprayed with this same tint lightened with XF 26, whereas « shaded » parts are sprayed with a mix darkened with green/black.
The extrados is painted with a layer of XF 55 whose plain effect is reduced, with highly diluted white applied on the veins. On the contrary, the hollows are darkened with XF 52, to strengthen the reliefs.

The decals can be applied. Number 12, the tailfin and the wings cockades are made with stencil, once again to nuance the tints.
The second phase of the painting can start again. As I decided to highlight the reliefs of the structure at the back of the fuselage, I began a lengthy and tedious task of masking, using masking tape which can be repositionned at will. This task will consist in light and well-targeted spraying along the masking tape, which had been wisely positionned. I started with XF 55 spraying on the higher parts, which are actually the most exposed to light. Conversely, all the lower parts are darkened with very slight veil of X19 along the masking tape, hiding now the previous light spraying.

Thank's guy's

Weathering make with oil paints, four colours were used : white, Naples yellow, “Ombres brûlées” and black. They are applied with a brush, without dilution and as spread out as possible.
Oil paints suit perfectly because you can work on it with no rush, you can mix it and dose the level of opaqueness. Black is applied first on the least subjected to light areas, having naturally defined subjectively the position of the sun.

This is an important amount of work but it brings the model into « life ».

Very impressive Michel. Just the other day I was at the RAF Museum in London looking lovingly at the stripped-down F2b now tucked away in the corner of a display devoted to Great War aircraft. I can't wait to see how your work progresses.

Chris, I asked Michel the same question re: his Hannover and also asked if he was a figure painter. There is clearly a very good eye connected to a very deft hand at work here.

Michel, we would love to see what you'd do with a nice and interesting French WWI tank such as this Renault and, if you choose to do so, please let us know where we can see the images........
(http://i1371.photobucket.com/albums/ag293/michaelscarborough1/renault_FT17_camo2_1918_zps192228c0.png) (http://s1371.photobucket.com/user/michaelscarborough1/media/renault_FT17_camo2_1918_zps192228c0.png.html)

Des, no worries, mate....I promise this is a one time request...no armorial anarchy intended! IMHO, good model building is good model building and sharing techniques from medium to medium can only help us become better aero-modelers.

Cheers from NYC,
Michael
