Hello to all,
Perhaps, remember you my Pfalz D XII:

In fact, is was a diptych project. So, now i'm going to do this:

I'm always wondering about Fe2b fighter or DH9. For instance, I start Fe2b but I can change.
A few pictures:
Little parts are ready for painting.

Be careful with the little crank on the fuselage, I broke and glued it three times. >:(
Best regards.

Hello to all,
Thanks a lot for your kind words. :D
Today, interior canvas, I choose a didactic way, it will be helpful. ;)

Great start, Alain. :D The camera is really nice work!
I will be following your build with interest, as I have
one waiting in the stash.
Cheers,

-
Excellent work, the camera is a terrific part
-
That camera looks like it would work! Amazing.
And how very apt that a WNW kit be used to build a movie plane. Now if we could find evidence of one that was used in the filming of Lord of the Rings the circle would be complete.
Adrian.

Hello to all,
Thanks a lot for your kind words. :)
I work very slowly because a lot of work with my job.
I painted cockpit interior and engine. I don't weather it yet. It just for fun because, at the end, engine will be hidden by cowls.

I used acrylic and oil paints (especially for wood and leather).

Hello to all,
Thanks a lot for your comments. ;)
Following... :)
First, I "soiled" engine but only to practice because it'll be hidden. So, I not detailled it.
(http://nsa33.casimages.com/img/2014/12/21/141221070444154748.jpg) (http://www.casimages.com/i/141221070444154748.jpg)

Then, I painted interior canvas just behind gunner. A little didactic as usual (of course, I'm a teacher...). ;)
Base (painted with hairbrush and Tamyia colors):
(http://nsa34.casimages.com/img/2014/12/21/141221070531302618.jpg) (http://www.casimages.com/i/141221070531302618.jpg)
Tools for smudging:
(http://nsa34.casimages.com/img/2014/12/21/141221070823513217.jpg) (http://www.casimages.com/i/141221070823513217.jpg)
In my experience, it's better to wet pencils to avoid scares on painting.
(http://nsa33.casimages.com/img/2014/12/21/141221073354181332.jpg) (http://www.casimages.com/i/141221073354181332.jpg)
Then, working with wet rubber brush until you like the effect.
(http://nsa33.casimages.com/img/2014/12/21/141221073409565734.jpg) (http://www.casimages.com/i/141221073409565734.jpg)
Canvas is almost ready. A little bit oil on leather parts.
(http://nsa33.casimages.com/img/2014/12/21/141221073612413934.jpg) (http://www.casimages.com/i/141221073612413934.jpg)
Hoping it'll be helpful. ;)
Best regards.

As always, didactic way. First, I cut tank plug to protect him from sanding. On another hand, you can see on picture that leather protection is in two parts in front of pilot so no joint.

The film canisters are a clever addition!

Hello Alain:
Nice touch in the interior with the film cans and clap board. The rest of it looks pretty sweet too. This is certainly going to be an interesting diorama when finished. I haven't seen "Hells Angels" in a while, I am going to have to scope it out again and look for the Pfalz DXII. I know they had one in the movie "Dawn Patrol", it's probably the same one.
Best
Mark

The clap-board and the spare film reels are a very clever touch to what is an excellent cockpit interior, well done.
Des.

Hi Alain, and merry chrismas!
your cockpit is really wonderfull you take care a lot of him, much more I am doing in my morane, I'm a little bit jealous !

Hello gentlemen,
Thanks for your kind words. :)
Following with pictures.
My idea (and I need your opinions to know how possible is it ;)):
Hugues bought old warplanes, so they are rather worn. I choose one of WnW painting scheme (E one). I painted it with masks. If you see the picture one the top of my topic you can see a light color for this plane. So, I think she'd be painted again. At first, I though a white or a grey color to be hidden during filming but, after discussion with friend, he rather thinks to a flashy painting to be well seing by others planes. Something like yellow with orange marks. I thought so, a civilian registration had to be. I found NC-3 numbers and one letter for this period. What do you think about it ? Thanks to help me.
Now, pictures:
With mask, I always spread mask hidden color to plug little holes. ;)
(http://nsa34.casimages.com/img/2015/01/31/150131042219600913.jpg) (http://www.casimages.com/i/150131042219600913.jpg)
(http://nsa34.casimages.com/img/2015/01/31/150131042241238942.jpg) (http://www.casimages.com/i/150131042241238942.jpg)
So, the scheme:
(http://nsa34.casimages.com/img/2015/01/31/150131042457720947.jpg) (http://www.casimages.com/i/150131042457720947.jpg)

(http://nsa33.casimages.com/img/2015/01/31/150131042638205293.jpg) (http://www.casimages.com/i/150131042638205293.jpg)
(http://nsa34.casimages.com/img/2015/01/31/150131042702102395.jpg) (http://www.casimages.com/i/150131042702102395.jpg)
(http://nsa33.casimages.com/img/2015/01/31/150131042718938060.jpg) (http://www.casimages.com/i/150131042718938060.jpg)
As you can see, my airbrush had to be in trouble, especially with red painting...
I think I'm going to keep all imperfections because all will be cover with yellow paint. Clearness effects will be interesting.
Best regards.
Alain.
-
Great update! I can't really answer your question but I say go with your best guess, feeling for the scheme!
RAGIII
-
I'm just catching up on this...wow...really neat stuff, Alain.
I'd say, yes, keep the imperfections. As you said, it was a well used airplane and you will be covering it with yellow anyway. I believe this will give the final look one of character without looking sloppy.
Very neat to watch this come together.
Cheers from NYC,
Michael
-
Hello gentlemen,
Thanks a lot. ;)
So, I took the yellow way... ;D
I used Michel Gruson's process with post-it.
(http://nsa34.casimages.com/img/2015/02/08/150208063549100950.jpg) (http://www.casimages.com/i/150208063549100950.jpg)
Then finished:
(http://nsa34.casimages.com/img/2015/02/08/15020806361162396.jpg) (http://www.casimages.com/i/15020806361162396.jpg)
Whole plane in yellow color. Lower wing is darker because of the shadow effect by the upper one.
(http://nsa34.casimages.com/img/2015/02/08/150208061923554388.jpg) (http://www.casimages.com/i/150208061923554388.jpg)
So, severals painting sailing:

Polish with cotton cloth:

Very smooth sanding with 1200 micromesh:
