Hello everybody,
This is my first model in this forum so I hope to be "good" enough. :) I started to build the LVG few month ago but too much things to do and I had given up. Now I feel like to build it again.
The aircraft is the great model from Wingnut Wings.

The interest of this kind of aircraft is the different materials like the wood. For the cockpit I used different paintings. For the fuselage I will use the decals from Uschi.

Very nice work ;)

Hello,
the work is neat... the result is there !
Very good job !

Excellent work - very crisp and clean modelling, precise paintwork! This is going to be a stunner. :)
If you will allow me to offer some advice, I recommend that you consider using alternative lozenge decals. Being an early WNW kit, the lozenge isn't the best in my opinion - far too bright. You may decide of course that the lozenge is OK - it can be coated to tone it down.
Having seen the way you have done the engine and cockpit I am sure that you will complete an outstanding model!

Beautiful work so far. I really like the wood tones.

I have already heard these decals are not perfect. I'm going to follow your advice and I'm probably going to order the lozenges from Aviattic.

Excellent work, Dol. I particularly like the wood tones...
very nice effect. I look forward to the next updates.
Cheers,

Hello,
As usual, it's a little bit sad to close the aircraft. So many details, so much work that is becoming invisible. However it's done. It's was not easy but it is closed. Due to the quality of the Wingnut Wings models, I suppose it's not a problem with the model but a problem with the man behind the model, me! I sand here and there and it''s closed now.
I painted the fuselage with an acrylic paint "tan" (hobby color H27)
For the inside of the aircraft I painted the wood with oil paintings. For the outside of the fuselage I used the Uschi's decals. It's very realistic. It took a long time to cut and put the different pieces panel by panel.

At last this is the result:
I added a thin layer of clear orange from Tamiya (X26)

You have done a superb job with the fuselage wood decals, they look very realistic and the clear orange finishes it off nicely.

Agreed. I may be buying those decals for my next wooden Albatros.

I thought I had this kit but evidently I dont. Really wish I did as you have stirred my interest. I really love the wood work. Will have to try that I think. You have such gorgeous tones of wood. Neat idea with the Aber ammo. I'll have to look for some. Really enjoying watching this build.

Hi Dol,
like your Engine and your wood-work on the fuselage.
Very well done ;)
Here is a funny story with a part from the wood-Decals by Uschi.
Alex Glass - this is the person behind the Brand name Uschi -, lives only about 45 - 50 minutes away from me.
Alex is an excellent good modeller.
About five years ago, he won a number of first and second prizes with his LVG.
He painted the wood grain with Valejo colors on his model. Grain for grain - a very demanding job.
One day - many years ago - he came on the idea to make this grain as decals, he wanted to make life easier for us modelbuilder ;)
We sent a few emails back and forth.
I sent him a lot of pictures of plywood grain of some plywood veneer sheets, which I had lying around.
These pictures - and of course plywood pictures from others -, used Alex as a template for his top wood-decals.
Well, a part of this grain of my plywood, you can find now on your model ;D
Greetings from Bavaria

Hello to all,
A good story. ;)

Thanks to all for these very pleasant compliments :D
Lukas, thanks for the information.
And thank you Bert for your story. It's interesting.

Hi,
I'm working on the fuselage. After the woodgrain decals, I varnish it. Unfortunately I have had some troubles with my airbrush >:( So I had to sand and varnish and sand and varnish...... No matter it's OK now, not perfect but OK. However I wonder whether the varnish isn't too much matt. What do you think ? (perhaps it's difficult to consider on a picture). As I'm working on the fuselage I've already stuck the different decals and I've made some weathering. I'm not sure to do the different stages in the best order. Generally the weathering is the last thing you do when the building and painting is over. And there is still work to be done ;D

Jean-Luc, I think the varnish and weathering are perfect. All of the wear is right where it belongs. I think one last coat of semi-gloss after all is complete will bring out the luster nicely.
Cheers,
Bud

I think this fuselage is just right, Jean-Luc. Will be a stunning model when complete.

hello to all,
Very nice wood grain effect.
Best regards.

Hello Dol,
Now this is a wonderful build. I like your wood grain, the engine will be gorgeous and your fuselage exterior tremendously good. A very clean and exquisit build!
Kind regards

A very small update with the leather around the cockpit. It's too smooth on the model so I 've carved it a little bit. Afterwards it is painted with artist acrylics ""burnt umber" and "burt sienna". The seam is painted.

Currently I'm working on the engine. So many springs to built it's quiet irritating >:(

Jean-Luc,
Very impressive improvement on the leather work, well done!
Cheers,

The leather rim is very nice - I like it very much.
You're right, Jean-Luc - he is too smooth on the model. Very good idea to make this rim a little bit wavy.
-
Very nicely done with the fuselage wood grain and the leather cockpit padding is brilliant.

Gorgeous. I agree with Des on the leather. Awesome.
