This is a Nieuport shot down by one of the early Pour Le Merit Aces, can't rem which one ts the moment -- Budeke or Wittgens maybe, have to go look it up, but notable for the rows of dots on the upper wings in place of the cockades which they took to be a new form of national marking ....

Re: the Nieuport -- it is indeed the Nieuport XII of esc N68 shot done by Kurt Wintgens on 20 May 1916, for his 4th confirmed victory. He wrote about the unusual upper wing makings in a letter home:
My fourth was a 'Nieuport avion de chasse' of the latest type and with a new marking on the upper wing [not the usual cockades]...
