Been a model builder my whole life. Almost 60 years old right now and decided to build a plane after seeing the rave reviews about the Wingnut Wings products. They along with the armor systems from Live Resin, have been growing the hobby.
I live an hour from the air museums in Wash DC. and was blown away by the old WW1 displays. I think there was a Caudron(?SP?) bi-plane and it was incredible with it's wood frame, old fabric-covered wings and so much patina...anyone could/should be in awe. In a room full of awe...It still caught my attention.
I teach at Navel Surface Warfare Command, and spent 10 years aboard SSBN Subs as a sonar tech. Also worked at a Porsche racing and prototype restoration shop. Skills acquired from a life of model building translated well. Growing up in South Florida around endurance races at Sebring and Daytona pushed my passion towards sports car racing. That's my normal subject to build.
One day in the 80's I walked in to Valley plaza hobbies. It was the first time I had ever seen hundreds of figures on display. I got hooked on that too!
But any gearhead/modeler can see how special some of these planes and old WW1 ships are.
I look forward to learning from what looks like a very talented pool of builders here.

Thank you all. :)
I must have spent 18 hours so far (just guessing) looking over everything. I know my subjects pretty well. I know VERY little about airplanes!! Went to the local hobby shop(to show support) to pick up some paint. I was completely lost. PC10...CDL..Mig colors, etc??? Ended up leaving with nothing more than a magazine. So as I try to put together a list of basic colors and explore all of the builds and techniques, I am learning that some here saying hello....are world class builders.
So Des, the moderator....I now know it is you making those stunning and fascinating scratchbuilts on the main page :o Amazing machines and amazing models and talent.
To the rest of you....in time I'll learn who you are.
First though.....I am on a steep learning curve with new companies and vendors searching for everythng like thin tape for wings and defining paint colors. Time to slow down and get organised.....

Welcome aboard and fire away with questions; everyone was a newbie once and your lateral modeling experience will certainly pay dividends.
Ps I share your interest in sports car racing... :)

Interest in racing is always a good thing - whether sports cars, or - as in my case -, motorcycle racing. :)
Welcome and enjoy here in this forum.
Caution - there are some crazy here ................. ::)
