with all the build logs ?
I myself , find it to be overwhelming and can get stressful because I end up feeling bad not replying to everyone's work which is all very deserving in having that support with feedback .
How do you guy's manage this ?
Terri

Terri,
No reason to stress, reply when you can. My method for replying to every build is ignoring my workbench way too much :-X That being said, I enjoy looking at every ones work almost as much as building !

I can tell you that I am with you, Terri. It is tough and, on top of that, even after two months on board, I am still trying to find my way around the site and go through the huge amount of info that is here. It's a tad overwhelming, to be sure.

Don't worry about it Terri, just having your company on the forum is a bonus, but just leave comments when you have the time to do so. Because I am the administrator I have to read every single post each day just to make sure everything is above board, this takes an enormous amount of my time which leaves me little time to post comments or to do any modeling.
The comments you post are very much appreciated Terri and we all know that we can't reply to everyone, but they all know you are thinking about them :) :) As the forum grows it will become even more difficult to post comments for every build, so you do what makes you happy, nobody is going to criticise you for not posting a comment.

Terri, indeed!
When I get a day or two or more behind I just hit "Mark all messages read." Then I catch up by skimming the "latest posts" link and look for posts with photos -- those I read, they are usually the actual updates...
-
I'm afraid I don't even try!
I will view threads that catch my attention, and reply to those. I have to admit that means most WnW builds don't get replied to, simply because there are so many, not because of any lack of modelling skill. My personal interest is more to the innovation and scratchbuilding side, which is where most of my attention goes.
I'm not offended by any lack of comments on my builds, I hope others feel the same way - we all know there are just too many posts to keep up with them all - and that is just a credit to this wonderful forum!

I think it helps to be retired, Terri. ;D

I am aware of having posted heaps of articles and photos over recent months, and while its encouraging to get feedback from those who take the time to reply, I just trust that it's relevant and useful for enough people for me to continue. (If I get too boring, Des, just send me a PM ;) ). I have a whole lot of articles on Austro-Hungarian aces and their aeroplanes from Scale Models magazines from back in the '80s that I plan to post soon, again, trusting that some will find it interesting.
At least no-one has to feel badly about not commenting on reviews as that section is only open to reviewers. Actually on that point, should reviewers start a thread for any comments members may like to make about a review?
We are lucky it is so active here, some other forums are dead slow on WWI stuff

I really wish I could, T, but I can't, so I usually only respond to posts for which I've received notification. Sometimes I'll spot something that slipped through and no notification was received and I'll respond to those posts, as well. That said, I apologize to all whom I've neglected.
Cheers,
Bud

Terri,
I stressed in the past but now I figure I'll just comment, encourage and appreciate when I can. There are so many builds, etc here that its inevitable some go unread until they come up again.
I find that the forum is usually so active that when I check in on it there are about 3-4 pages worth of updated threads.
Des sure has a lot of reading to do!!

Yes, he does! Thanks, Des!

How do I keep up with replying? I don't. And I feel badly about that. But I simply can't.

I have the same problem, not beeing able to keep all the byuild threads on track.
Thats why I mandatory check the build logs of the subjects I'm building/plan to build in teh very near future (atm thats Gotha and Salmson), the scratchbuilders (not that I'm going to do something like this) and few other builds that I'm interested to.
I'm mainly ignoring the DVII madness as it is a bit too much, but I'm keeping all the completed models threads and sometimes after seeing the completed a/c, I'm checking te build log also.
I'm very rarely comenting unless I can give a usefull advice or find the article very usefull.
Not that I don't want to check everything, but we are all too active, so it is hardly possible.
best regards,
Sasho

i usually have a couple hours per day of net time and theres just no way to reply to all builds. i tend to check in on my closer mates builds more often and also builders which i have seen turn out fantastic work. occasionally i will skim thru and randomly check a build that peaks my interest and i am many times pleasantly surprised at how nice things are looking. we truly have a talented group of builders here. hey jamo as long as you post the articles i will check that out. you are a tireless devotee to the cause and i for one appreciate everything you take the time to post. some of it i even bother to print for further study. thank you for everything you post. no boring at all.

I'm very slack and hope it's not construed as rude... i look at them, marvel at the amazing skills I see on display and basically shut up because I have nothing worthwhile to add. But that does not mean i don't appreciate the effort I see and admire here every day.

I can imagine! Perhaps now the forum is getting busier, with more members, you ought to have a team of trusted assistants - moderators, I believe they are called?
People who can keep an eye on things and move or edit posts if required, but not have the same overall powers of administration.

Glad you posted this Terri as I too feel badly for not being able to respond to every one with encouragement, thoughts, etc. Heck, it's that way with the completed ones too. This site is SO busy, and that's great, but I don't want anyone to think I'm rude, snobby, etc.

also sometime i dont commet because after so many pats on the back it seems redundant to say anything.

That pretty much sums it up.

I do not visit the other modeling forums much anymore so that gives me more time to be here. I will sometimes set the notify option for threads I am interested in keeping up with. I also have a number of threads that I follow when I get online and scan the unread postings. So, I cruise through the threads and read those I have an interest them and particularly those with photographs.
Like Bo, I will often set all postings to the read condition, so that the number of unread threads are smaller on my next visit.
I try to reply when I have something useful to say but like most everyone I cannot reply to all of the threads and postings. And I do not take it I miss when others do not reply to mine.
As you probably know this is a very good forum; polite informative and useful. Thanks for being here.

I like to try and say something positive to all I can without
exhausting my typing finger. To me, it doesn't matter if I
am 57th in line. It's not a competition and I'm not a judge, so
if I like something, and with everyone's best efforts here,
what's not to like, so I say so. :)
Cheers,
Ernie :)

I can't keep up and I'm retired. I seem to go in fits and starts these days. When Des first started the forum it was easy to keep up but as the membership has blossomed, the best I can do is read the recent posts and leave some comments here and there.
Cheers,
Chris

Thanks for all your guy's feed back . Nice to know that I'm not alone on this and others feel the same . This is a wonderful place to be and share our talents .

Terri, this site and the 72nd Aircraft Forum are the only two scale modeling sites/groups I frequent with any regularity. Why? The quality of the people (first and foremost), the quality of the posts, and the subject. 8)

Like others I too find it difficult to keep up so I specialise in the areas that interest me. I also limit my viewing of other sites because, as has been suggested, they tend to be slow on WW1.
I cannot comment on every topic because if I did I would not only not have time to model, I would not have time to go to bed (and I am retired too!!) Just having the opportunity to share with other like minded people and to get some feedback has given me some much more from my hobby than I could ever have imagined. Knowing that such a great group regularly look in - regardless of whether they comment or not - is a wonderful experience.
A big THANK YOU to Des for running and administering this site - and setting a standard of modelling which is second to none.
-
Terri I too find it hard to keep up. I feel bad about not answering some posts even while people answer mine and offer support. Unfortunately there is no easy way. I am an admin on another site and like Des I have to check every thread (although its not neaqrly as busy as this site). There I use a thumbs up smiley to acknowledge a thread unless there is a response needed. I have found though trying to answer every thread on the 2 sites I frequent is just impossable and my modeling time which is already shortened due to physical issues becomes even less. So now I try and respond but concentrate more on trying to find modeling time. I hope that doesnt sound too self centered.

Good point Terri..
I certainly don't read or comment on many threads, mainly due to time. In fact I can go for months without even opening the forum!
I quite often look at build threads on the same or similar kits to my current build or in my stash, and also those threads asking for hints and tips - I find those very useful for learning new skills and refining existing ones.
I do not mind if folks don't post on my own threads, but advice is always welcome. I think the general tone on this forum is just right - no one feels nor needs to feel pressured into commenting or answering, and there is definitely no sense of "us" and "them" between the levels of modelling skills and experience. I also like how people from all nations are welcome where no one is pedantic over the translations.
I could in theory spend a whole working day every day on the forum!
