I started this kit on or about April 16th and finished it today. Some of the membership have been faithful followers of my build log on the 'Under Construction' board and I'd like to thank all of you who have provided so much support. The kit was painted with Tamiya acrylics and is basically an OOB build with the exception of the following.
- Engine detailed with spark plugs and leads.
- HGW seatbelts.
- Monofilament and brass tube rigging.
- Pulley ports hollowed out, detailed, and filled with two part epoxy.
- Wing ribs highlighted with pastels.
- Fuselage bands and rudder painted, instead of using the kit supplied decals.
While I ran into some difficulties during this build, they were almost all of my own making, and I discovered a certain satisfaction in learning how to circumvent said difficulties.

Chris,
Congratulations my old friend you've once again completed one First Class project. Never doubted you'd do just that either.
OUTSTANDING.

Congratulations on a superb build, you have achieved a fantastic result with a model to be very proud of. Your overall finish is excellent and the rigging is brilliant, your modeling skills in WW1 model aircraft have hit a new high, very well done Chris.

An outstanding model Chris and a great visual reminder to everyone of how good Roden kits can be with some patience.
I've been tempted by this scheme so it's great to see one finished.
I understand Wingnuts does not plan to do a Viper-engined SE5a so the Roden kit has the market to itself.
Thanks for sharing this build with us.
Best wishes

I was beginning to think British and American planes were all drab! Thanks for modelling some color!
Everyone here amazes me with such realistic paint skills. Yours is outstanding! :)

Thanks for all of your comments! With support like this, you fellows will have to put up with another one of my efforts in the near future. ;D For my next project though, I'm going to have a go at Trumpeter's 1/32 Swordfish Mk.II. When you think of it, I'm really not straying too far from the fold as it's still a biplane.
Cheers,
Chris

Chris,
I missed your "rollout" of the completed model, was on the road to the Western Regional Show. Very nice finish after more then one "bump in the road"! Striking colour scheme and great work all round, Congrats on a fine looking model!

Greg,
Had a ball, learned a lot, and even got a (minor) plaque/award. I'll be sorting out the photos and my thoughts, thought I'd do a report in the appropriate section later today/tonight.
Cheers,

Hey, Chris,
You sure snuck that one past me! Excellent work, as usual. And you wanted ME to start the WNW SE to show YOU how to do it! The shoe is certainly on the other foot now, methinks! ;D

I enjoyed following your build, in spite of your tribulations. Correction:actually the tribulations made it more interesting -- and I'm not talking about schadenfreude. A good story needs a conflict...
In the end she came out very nicely indeed, congratulations!
Cheers,
Tony

Thanks for all of your comments. She ain't as 'purty' as the models you fellows churn out with ease, but with my skill set, I'm darned happy with each and everyone of these birds I'm able to build. ;D
Cheers,
Chris
