Looking excellent N.C.S.E ;)
Andrew

Good start N.C.S.E. I look forward to watching your progress.
Cheers
Pete.

Too soon to post photos but I've experimented with a minute layer of varnish on the wooden parts, let's see how this goes...
-
Excellent Start, looks fantastic.
RAGIII

You're an extremely fast learner. That looks very good and you have clearly studied the builds, techniques etc available. Well done and carry on.
Steve

An early Fe.2b... :) finally someone builds one! :)
-
Alright. I'm going to enjoy following along. Great start.
Paddy
-
Nice start NCSE hope the "varnish" works out.
Best Regards
Keith
-
The varnish didn't do much, I've completed construction of the undercarriage, the day I don't break some part of the undercarriage is the day I leave modelling, I'm now continuing on to work on the engine.

Very nice tub there NCSE.. :)
-
I've finished the engine and have given it a coat of paint, though it definitely needs another coat.

You have the touch and the old girl is looking very, very good. "Thumbs Up"!
Paddy
-
Sure do, though I believe it is coming (eventually)
-
great work on the engine, what paint did you use for the copper?
cheers
michael
-
If I remember correctly I did it in copper then put some brass on top of that.
-
Alrighty I need advice now, I've been working on the wings now and I'm unsure how to flesh them out a bit rather then just have a flat coat of it (though I'm stretching the term flat, I am using brushes). Any suggestions?
-
I dry brush some ground up pastel sticks of almost the same colour into the gaps between the ribs. Alternatively paint over with a very thin coat of almost the same colour, then gently sand to blend the two - either way gives more depth to the colour.
I am sure the others here will give better advice!
-
Also, what you could try is take your basic wing colour, add a little white, to just lighten it a bit, dilute it down, then brush between the ribs, you could even do it 2 or 3 times to get the effect you want, don't forget subtle is better than stark.
Cheers
Pete.
-
I tried your method Ian, it has yet to be perfected by me, but its the best paint job I've done, thanks!
-
N.C.S.E,
Ian has given you very sound advice my young friend. Not only that but well worth your time to prefect this technique. As you read through the threads here you'll see many outstanding projects that the same basic technique has been used . Just remember to take your time and not rush, learn the different techniques involved and never be afraid to experiment. I've every faith you have the makings to become a true Master of our shared hobby.

N.C.S.E.
I see you have put the curved piece behind the pilots seat ok, how did you do it? As it seems to be causing some people problems.
Cheers
Pete.
-
Hmm, it may have something to do with the late vs early thing as the late 160 HP engine has 3 holes for extracooling for the radiator, that may have something to do with it as it is a different piece with maybe a slightly different and more difficult fit. I simply put it in one side of the fuselage and pushed it into the other side that, with liberal application of glue before putting it in. I wasn't confident about the fit between the two parts, it appeared to have a gap, but looking at the instructions it seemed to be alright, as well as the model on the WnW website.
-
I too am not too concerned about the slight gap between the curved panel abd the nascelle halves - the gap will be a little less the tighter the halves fit, but I haven't got that far yet. Yours looks just fine to me :)
What are you using for rigging material?
-
I tried your method Ian, it has yet to be perfected by me, but its the best paint job I've done, thanks!
You're welcome - looking forward to some more pics. I have learned so much from the contributors on here and that's the great thing about forums like this, everyone is open to sharing experiences and techniques.
-
Alright, first the bad news news, I buggered up the wing texturing as I tried further experimentation which failed horribly, but now I have moved onto the rigging with my brand new rigging wire, it's very good after using simple thread for rigging, the elastic really helps to give the wire tension, contrary to what I've read here I've found it does increase the strength of my wings, most of rigging is completed now.
-
You can always sand off or strip unwanted paint?
-
You're doing some lovely work, mate, and making mistakes is just another way of learning so I wouldn't be too hard on yourself. As Ian says, you may be able to clean off the areas you're not happy with. Some Isopropyl alcohol on a cotton bud/ Q-tip will allow you to selectively clean off the paint and won't attack the plastic.
Keep up the good work, I've enjoyed reading your build log.
Dal.

A lot of modelling done in the last few days.
The struts are as usual a bit wonky but the rigging is much better I think.
I have yet to put more coats on the top plane, so the paint job isn't the best there yet.
I'm thinking about using the same colour on the top wing to repaint the bottom planes.

You have made huge strides in your building and you were pretty good to start with!!!! Each project is a step forward. Well done so far!!!!
Steve

She's progressing nicely, will be an impressive model when done for sure.

I couldn't agree more, well done.

Wow! You've certainly gotten a lot done on her, my friend. She's coming along brilliantly.
Cheers,

Nicely done NCSE, good job on rigging the beastie. Keep it up!
Andrew
-
NCSE,
Moving right along nicely my young friend. It's very enjoyable watching you progress to date. You've come a long way in a short period of time and it's wonderful to have watched your skills grow.Keep up the outstanding work young master in training.

I always make it a rule to leave the model in a better state then it was when I came to it.
But I must admit the rigging is my destroyer, the fiddly control wire rigging is the death of me, I go to do it and if I put it in place, then some other wire snaps off, if another wire doesn't snap off, then the one I've just placed snaps off, argh!
-
What you have achieved so far is looking very good. We all, at some stage, experience problems with rigging, it can be a real headache sometimes, but perseverance and patience pays off in the long run, stick with it and take your time.
Des.
-
When I look at your first rigging job and compare it to this one, I see huge strides in what you've accomplished in such a short period of time. As frustrating as it can be at times, you're well on your way to mastering it. Keep up the good work!
Cheers,
Chris
-
Alright, after a bit of a break from the model, I'm working on it again, a bit more rigging and more work on the tail section, lots of touchups needed still, they just seem to keep going up.

NCSE,
Great progress my young friend. Fantastic work on her rigging not to mention excellent paint and detailing too. Keep up the great works.

She's looking great, NC. Your best yet. I look forward to seeing more.

I've been looking at my kit with great trepidation so I tip my hat to you for having the intestinal fortitude to build this model so early into your model building career. Kudos to you!
Cheers,
Chris
-
This looks excellent. You have chosen a bird that is a very complicated subject and you have succeeded in making it look great. Well done!!! You have the ability to stick with a project. That shows patience and perseverence- something that is to be admired!!!
Steve
-
Hey NC, nicely done indeed. I still can't see myself tackling this one and I've been modelling on and off for well over 50 years! Keep at it, you have a beautiful model going here. And BTW, the "touching up and adjustments" never end; in this case you are showing not only constructive self criticism but the resolve to continually get it as good as you can.
"You got Game, Sir"!!
Cheers,
Lance
-
Hi NC, looking at your FE, which is looking superb, excellent job, I can't see any future model that you build will present you with any real problems at all, I hope you will stay with WWI biplanes.
Cheers
Pete.
-
Wowzers, NC! Everytime I see your subject (...Yet another...) it makes me laugh. Can't get enough Fe-2s!
Excellent job. I think that's the scheme I'm going to do with mine so yours is great inspiration.
Dan
-
That's a good scheme you chose, NCSE. How you FEE builders are able to get the rigging looking good is beyond me. Keep up the good work, mate.
