Title: WNW Fokker EIV 638/15 KEK 3, Mid-late 1916
Post by: mgunns on September 20, 2014, 10:30:13 AM
Okay, after I did Kurt Crailsheims EII, I had to do an EIV.  I started out to do Max immelmann's but I ruined a decal and went with this one.  Basically OOB, no ground breaking insights, just OOB using the Tamiya paints as called out for in the instructions.  Per WNW, it went together rather well, and the tips from Bertl and others who are in the throes of their Eindeckers all went into this build.

(http://i942.photobucket.com/albums/ad261/ptbarnum101/FokkerEIII_EIV/DSC01450.jpg) (http://s942.photobucket.com/user/ptbarnum101/media/FokkerEIII_EIV/DSC01450.jpg.html)

I used Maxima fishing line and EZ line for the rigging.  For the rib outlines I used pencil and used pencil for some of the staining.

(http://i942.photobucket.com/albums/ad261/ptbarnum101/FokkerEIII_EIV/DSC01446.jpg) (http://s942.photobucket.com/user/ptbarnum101/media/FokkerEIII_EIV/DSC01446.jpg.html)
For swirls I used Tamiya dull aluminum as the base and Testors Silver.  Random swirls employed.  I looked at the photo's provided by Bertl and went from there.

(http://i942.photobucket.com/albums/ad261/ptbarnum101/FokkerEIII_EIV/DSC01445.jpg) (http://s942.photobucket.com/user/ptbarnum101/media/FokkerEIII_EIV/DSC01445.jpg.html)
The only word of caution on this kit is the the placement of the machine gun coming.  This is a critical phase of the assembly and it has to align perfectly.  Othewise you get this:
(http://i942.photobucket.com/albums/ad261/ptbarnum101/FokkerEIII_EIV/DSC01441.jpg) (http://s942.photobucket.com/user/ptbarnum101/media/FokkerEIII_EIV/DSC01441.jpg.html)
And this was after making corrections.

(http://i942.photobucket.com/albums/ad261/ptbarnum101/FokkerEIII_EIV/DSC01437.jpg) (http://s942.photobucket.com/user/ptbarnum101/media/FokkerEIII_EIV/DSC01437.jpg.html)

I am really getting to like the Eindecker family and will eventually build all of them.
Enjoy

Best

Mark

Mark,
That's very, very nice! You are really churning out some magnificent Builds of late and all at an extremely high standard. The more I see of these Eindeckers the more I look forward to starting one. I like the way you simplified the machined aluminum finish; no exotic paints or markers let alone techniques, just plain old enamel over acrylic with beautiful results!
Cheers,
Lance

Hello Lance:

Thanks for stopping by scoping it out and your compliments, always welcome.  The pics aren't the greatest due to lighting, but I am happy with it.  Yes, the simpler the better.  It really isn't that painting the swirls.  Just a little time consuming, but where else can you make a bunch of crooked lines and get away with it?
They do build into a neat model and they do grow on a person.

Best

Mark

Beautifully done Mark, the finish on this model is excellent and also very good rigging. I only have the E.IV to get and then I will have the whole series.

Outstanding work, buddy, and FAST!  Your swirls, weathering, rigging and overall finish are spectacular.  You've convinced me that I need to get an E.IV next.
Cheers,
Bud

Nice work!  Would you mind taking and posting a close-up picture of how the rigging all comes together there above the machine guns?

Beautiful job, Mark!  A little dark in some of the pictures, but your amazing
workmanship shines through.  Excellent work on the squiggles, and thanks for
making them seem not so fearful! ;D  I have always been a fan of the Eindeckers
and your offering has certainly reinforced that.  Well done, my friend!

Cheers,
Ernie :)

Another fine build Mark!  Your productivity is as impressive as your skill. ;). You will soon need to enlarge your hanger to display all of these beauties! ;D

Cheers and huzzas,

Bob

Very nicely done Eindecker Mark. Those machined aluminum squiggles really look the part. You make it all look so easy!

Thanks Guys for stopping by and your compliments.  As you know, your compliments and encouragement are part of what keeps me motivated to build, not to mention the great kits.
@ Kreston:  I will post some decent up close and in focus pictures of how the lines all come together at the Cabane strut above the machine guns and some better pictures too, sadly Photobucket is down at the moment.

Until that time folks

Best

Mark,

I have been catching up on my the Completed Models listings and just saw this today.  Looks lovely!  Your swirls look spot on.

My EIII is still awaiting that decal from New Zealand, so I am envious of your growing collection!

Hello, Mark -

Nothing wrong with OOB, mate!

Excellent job on your EIV, especially your work on the metal cowling - nicely set off on your diorama as well.

Regards

Dave

Sorry I'm so late on this Mark, but it's always good to see quality OOB models. I'm very much aware that there are some WNW Eindekker shaped holes in my stash and seeing what you have achieved could well persuade me to part with more money!

Best wishes
Nigel

@ Dave:  Thanks for stopping by and your compliments, always appreciated.
@ Nigel:  Thanks for stopping by.  The Eindecker is a great build.  Nothing really complex about the build, goes together well, just that underwing rigging takes a lot of studying, but can be done.  Highly recommend the kit.
