Title: L/F 1/72 Hermann Goering Fokker Dr.1 markings
Post by: Procopius on September 20, 2014, 05:41:57 AM
Hullo all, I believe the Roden Fokker Dr.1 in 1/72 has the markings for Hermann Goering's aircraft as one of the options. If one of you happens to have this kit, and doesn't plan to build Fatty G's machine, could I persuade you to sell the relevant decals to me? I'd prefer if at all possible to marry the hell of using Roden decals to the ease of building the Eduard kit.

Let me know if you're interested in helping me out; I live in Chicago, if distance is an issue. Thank you for looking!

You can have mine, if RAGIII doesn't have them.

I have located my decals. Other than a bunch of crosses the only serial numbers are for 152/17 and 454/17. So if it is the crosses you need I have you covered.

Huh! So does Goering's tripe just use standard markings? Could I just in theory use the kit decals in the Eduard profipack?

I will look through DR1 aces by GvW. If I am reading the vague directions correctly then Roden is calling for a black forward fuselage and white tail. Now the white tail is believable but black fuselage no. The rest is as I said just crosses so If Eduard provides the right style then yes, and probably will work better!

Peter Kilduff's book on Goring includes a profile by Greg VW of 206/17 flown by Goring in late Spring 1018, which shows a white tail/rudder, white fuselage sides from tail to cross field, and white cowling, wheels and all struts.  The cross fields are either black or olive.  The rest is Fokker streaking on top surfaces and Fokker turquoise undersurfaces.  This profile shows eiserneskreuze  markings.

This aircraft is also shown in color profile in GVW's Osprey book "Fokker Dr.1 Aces of WWI," as Profile 37. The cross fields are olive and balkenkreuze have been applied.

The only known photo of 206/17 is a closeup of Goring in the cockpit, which doesn't help much with markings, but does show the flare rack on the right side of the fuselage.  Look here (great website for Dr.1 photos and information, arranged by aircraft number):

Good luck!
