I can't lay claim to having built dozens of WWI aircraft, as I've only ever actually finished three, this being the third. I've started four or five other kits, but none are as yet completed. First: the plaque I made to be framed and displayed with the model.

Next: the model itself. Far from one of the better examples of this kit, but I did the best I could. I completely forgot to add aileron control cabling, and right wing tip skid has been irrecoverably lost. Papenmeyer flew his triplane with a Nieuport prop, so I borrowed one somewhere and used that. Other than that, I'm happy to have it in my case. (Not the best photos either, but certainly the best I have at the moment.)

(I just now tonight noticed that I added the 14 after the 17, which is of course backwards!) I hope to do much better with my next Dr.I
Please don't be too critical.

She's a good looking bird and I have a hunch if you hadnt pointed them out the small flaws would never have been noticed...

I was concerned about just the opposite; folks noticing all my blunders, and thinking me a fool. :)

??? Your paint is very much its strong point. The subdued colours really work and the streaking is well done. I'd be very proud of it.

No, not a fool. Nicely done, and a work you should enjoy. I do.

Thanks Mike, nice hearing from you.

She's absolutely gorgeous, Kevin. Like Steve said, if you hadn't pointed out the very minor flaws, we probably wouldn't have noticed. You did such an outstanding job on this one that, aside from those two correctable items, it's perfect. I would be quite proud to have her in my display case. I little judicious touch up painting can fix the serial number and the missing skid can be easily scratch-built if these things bother you. But I say, display her with pride. She's brilliant.
Cheers,
Bud

Very nice Dr.1 Kevin, a fitting tribute to Papenmeyer.

Lovely Dr.1 Kevin, the streaky camo looks just right.

Kevin,
That's one awesome Tripe my old friend. Your Fokker streaking camouflage is one of best examples anywhere. Happy to see her again and thank you for sharing it here.

Kevin,
Anything but foolery on display here. Very nice, a real eye catcher and I really like the display plaque. Can you share the method you used for the "streaking"? I did this kit about 6 months ago and did mine by hand (acrylics over enamel) and it was a "bear". (MVR's 152/17) I hope to do Lothar's yellow beast soon, would really appreciate some hints on an alternative streaking technique.
Cheers,
Lance

I built a plaque with grass, but it's certainly nothing fancy. Model sets in my case with the framed picture behind it.

From what I've read, I didn't do anything unusual, just oils (with Liquin to spread more easily), over a Tamiya acrylic base coat. A semi damp/dry brush was then used to remove some paint here and there until I had an effect that I liked. I stripped all three wings after the first attempt, as I felt the brownish shade I had used was too dark.

Sounds like a class display adding a personal touch with the personnel in the photo. Good stuff.

Hi, FB,
Very nice work, with a real "Attaboy!" for the streaking finish. Congratulations on your hard work and excellent results! :)

I'll echo the other comments here in saying that I think you've done a fine job here, particularly with your streaking and overall subdued appearance. I'm looking forward to seeing you complete a few more of these birds.
Cheers,
Chris
