Salutations from the Western Front;
As you might have seen on TGWAF, this is the work to date on the Albie, I'm progressing slowly and now working on the wings.

Hi, Pete,
Excellent work: congratulations! One question: are you using "standard" copper wire for the ignition leads, or do you have a "secret weapon?" First rate effect, whaever it is! :)

Hi, Pete,
Excellent work: congratulations! One question: are you using "standard" copper wire for the ignition leads, or do you have a "secret weapon?" First rate effect, whaever it is! :)
No, it's just standard copper wire, it's become a standard practice now with WnW Daimler engines to put in the ignition wires.

Pete
-
Pete, that dirty inner fuselage/cockpit look is great and the engine is superb!
Andrew

Thanks Andrew.

I like the engine, it looks like it has actually run and contains oil. The woodwork looks pretty nifty as well. I'm looking forward to future postings on this build.

Smashing Pete, all the way around.

Von Buckle

She's scrumptiuos, Pete. The wing shading and the patching are especially nice.
Cheers,
Bud
-
Man, I like that woodwork effect, especially the one panel that contrasts with the others. Your rib shading looks excellent too.
Cheers,
Chris
-
Very very nice work. and echoes all the other comments.
Keith
-
Thanks for the kind comments guys.
Cheers
Pete.
-
Hi Pete,
Wings are very cool, preshading etc., but fuselage...wanted a more elaborate plywood. Or was it detailed photo? The wood is badly photographed. Really like what I wrote shading. Great one.
Cheers,
Vladimir
-
Thanks for the comments Vladimir, it's possibly the photos that don't show the plywood too well.
Cheers
Pete.

Sorry for the lack of updates, now the 'Old Work Horse' has caught up with me and things have gone well with it, so here is the current state of progress, sorry for the quantity.

The last 2, I've put together a base for the Albie to see how it looks.
Cheers
Pete.
-
Pete,
Good to see you making progress again - looks superb so far. The wood grain and weathered cowling look very realistic. This looks as though this is going to be your best one thus far, mate.
Where did you get the truck model from?
Regards
Dave
-
Where did you get the truck model from?
Regards
Dave
Thanks Dave,
The truck is an old 1/32 Pyro Renault Town Car kit which I converted to a Renault truck a la WWI.
Cheers
Pete.
-
Weathering and wood graining are first rate mate! :P
Sean
-
That's looking good Pete. I especially like the chipping. It is a very hard thing to do properly and i've seen a lot of models where it looks like a brush loaded with silver paint has been plonked on the paint job but that looks random and realistic.
What was your technique.
Gary
-
Many thanks Sean and Gary.
Gary, I used the 'Marmite Technique', first spray the part your chosen metal colour ie steel or aluminium, let it dry, dab on some Marmite with a stiff brush or small piece of sponge, spray your part the colour it's gonna be, in my case for the Albie, Vallejo Duck Egg Green, let it dry, wash the part in warm soapy water with a soft brush, voila, the Marmite comes off leaving a chipped finish with the metal showing through the paint.
Cheers
Pete.
-
Hi Pete,
Very nice so far, the different finishes you have achieved are very effective indeed.
The base is also very nice, what have you used for the grass?
Best Regards
Keith
-
Hi Keith, thanks very much for the comments, for the grass I used Heki Realistic Wildgrass grass mat and justed dabbed on some MIG Pigments for the mud.
Cheers
Pete.
-
Really an outstanding job all around Pete, marvelous. A joy to view. My comments are a repeat of the other statements but again the wood graining, that lovely engine and the chipping are jewels. I believe I see some oil streaking on the cowl too. A pleasure to be able to follow along. :) :) :)
Paddy
P.S. I second you request for Lord Buckles return, and we may just have him at it within the next couple of months. It will be great to have him back with all you Master Builders.
-
Looking extremely good Pete, I really like your wood grain with varying shades, it looks very realistic, and the truck looks good also.
Des.
-
What a great looking bird. You've done Jasta 5 justice with this one!!! How are you going to work the truck into the scene?
Steve
-
Spectacular all around Pete! Your woodgrain panel effect is really, really well done, as is the engine. The chipping effect looks convincingly real to my eye. Just the right amount in my opinion. Can't wait to see more. Nice job on the converted truck too.
Cheers,
Chris
-
Outstanding work so far, Pete. It's nice to finally see that lovely Renault put to use.
Cheers,
Bud
-
Paddy, Des, Steve, Chris and Bud, many, many thanks for your positive comments, I really appreciate them.
Steve, I've left one of the nose panels off and ordered a mechanic figure, now thats really taking me out of my comfort zone, just have to see how it turns out!!!!!! :-[
Cheers
Pete.
-
Pete,
Outstanding project my old friend. Highly impressive wood work too. It's good to see the old Renault truck again still as excellent as ever.

Paddy

Pete,
Let me just say "WOW"! Absolutely beautiful and master class results, you are a very skilled modeller. The wood graining is superb, the engine a jewel, and the chipping effect is very realistic. I look forward to the views of the finished product; she's a winner!
Cheers,
Lance

Thanks Gregory.
Paddy, you just don't know what your saying mate, figures and me just don't go together, they put the fear of God into me.

Thanks Bob, rigging under way.
Cheers
Pete.
-
Pete your work is stunning :)
if i could just pick your brains and ask how you achieved the colour effect on the exhaust ;)
cheers
michael
-
That's got to be the coolest wood I've seen. I also really like the chips and such on the metal parts. Very realistic indeed!
Keep rolling and rigging... 8)
Dan
-
Thanks Dan, rigging finished, on to the last stages now.
Thanks Michael, the exhaust is a Tigermodels resin exhaust, sprayed with Vallejo Model Air Mud Brown (71037), then a light brush with MIG Pigments Ashes White and the end of the exhaust brushed with MIG Pigments Smoke.
Cheers
Pete.

cheers Pete, can't wait to see it finished.

Hopefully not too long now Michael.

I'm on the final stretch now, the mechanic arrived in the post from Germany this morning, oh boy! what have I let myself in for with this, I think I'll take all my photos in black and white, then I won't have to bother painting it. :-\

That mechanic is a real beauty. The detail that Martin Hille managed with him is excellant. I happen to have one of those wee gents on the bench now as he receives minor cleanup before the prime coat. There are plans for his future too. :)
He's going to be a great addition to your project.
Paddy
P.S. Black and white photos....hum. I knew you're one sharp bloke. ;D

Pete, do you seal the pigments or is it the very last step? Hope you’ll shoot a photo of the pigment area for us to see.

I have the same kit in the stash, and simply cannot make up my mind as to what scheme I want to depict, so I guess it'll just have to stay in its place in the dungeon for the time being. Looks like you did a real nice job on the kit.
