OK I know this is predominantly a static model forum but as there are a couple of builds of "U10" going on I am taking the liberty of showing a picture of my Flair Fokker DVII just after landing following the first flight for 7 years. It first flew in 1996 finished in a Jasta 18 scheme of Gunther von Buren and was retired to the loft in 2007. Top wings and fuslage recovered and now finished as Jasta 65 "U10". Wieghs 8 and 3/4 pounds, powered by OS70 four stroke and is a superb flyer. Lozenges sprayed on using a frisk film mask but I need to put some tapes on. As a point of interest the U10 on the top wing just merges into a white block at a distance, I wonder if that was the same on the original?

She's a beauty, Chip! I'd love to see her in flight. Do you have a video you could post?

The Flair D.VII is a brilliant model. I used to fly one back in the 90s, also with an OS70 and it was a great flyer. Didn't look as nice as yours though. I haven't flown for a few years but I'm planning to get back into it soon, seeing this is more encouragement to do that. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for asking (and all the other nice comments posted).
I hope to fly it tomorrow (Sunday), winds are forecast very light and a video may be possible.

Have a safe flight Chip :)

Great looking DVII, Chip -
My brother in law is into model aircraft flying, so I know these models are not easy to fly and it takes time to master it.

Awesome! I fly a bit of R/C myself, and would never let that off the ground; it's waaaaay to pretty for my propensity for, um, hard landings!

Finally managed to get some video. The first attempt was a complete failure due to the camera operator pressing the wrong button on the camera and although last Sunday we got some it's not the best quality with some focus and exposure issues - I need to sort out the camera setup (Sony A77). There was a blustery crosswind at the time and the model had to be flown right down onto the strip so please excuse the landing.

Very impressive flight Chip and aerobatics as well, very brave for a first flight. In a few scenes this model could quite easily be mistaken for the real thing right down to the trail of exhaust smoke. Did it take much to get the trim correct once you got off the ground. I see what you mean about the landing, a little bumpy but a safe landing. Congratulations on a great model and a great flight.

Very cool! Like Des said there are places where your DVII could be the real thing!

Chip,
Great video, and the cross wind technique is exceptionally well done! Thanks for sharing this for all our enjoyment.

I really enjoyed the video, Chip.
We used to live not too far away from Birmingham UK airport and every day took a long walk with our dog along the park just at the end of the principal runway. Just occasionally we'd see crosswinds causing horrendous difficulty for the airliners just above our heads as they came in to land. So in the circumstances I think you brought the D.VII in very well!
Best wishes
