Along with the Nie XI I am working on the Hansa-Brandenburg D.I, it will be the 28.40 machine flown by Frank Linke-Crawford and Benno Fiala from FliK 41J (with black-white checkerboard on both sides of the fuselage).
Again, here some photos. At this moment there is more progress on the build, hope to post new photos soon.
-
And this is how the fuselage was made:
-
Perhaps even more impressive than the Nieuport! This is Stunning work!!

Under normal conditions a man is never happy to hear this from a woman. :) But in this case I am really happy about this comment.
Many thanks to all of you for your encouraging comments, I will keep you updated on the progress and post new photos asap.

A little progress on the fuselage and finished wheels.

WOW!!!! Superb details and woodgrain in this scale! You are truly a master modeller!

Thanks a lot for the comment, but please trust me I am very far from the degree of "master modeller". Every successful attempt is preceeded byl 3-5 failures. ;) This is the fourth version of the fuselage and I am not satisfied with the checkers anyway. Looks like I have to swap home made decals for professional ones...
-
You are a very good modeller and a perfectionist to boot! What you achieve is mind blowing - that engine is simply a wonderful piece of modelling. Exceptional work without a doubt.
-
A little progress on the wings and the elevator. Next time I will use a plotter and a masking tape to airbrush the iron crosses. Home made decals are just too thick for this scale... :(
I will remove the paint from the wings and go for another attempt.
-
You have done a superb job with the fuselage and wings Ondra, for such a miniature scale you are adding quite good details, well done, the wood grain on the fuselage is excellent.

:o Scale 1:144 :o
This little thing disappears under the fingernail............ ???
Absolutely brilliant !!
Wonderful work !!

Thank you all very much for your encouraging comments.
After removing paint from the wings I decided to make them new from scratch. I do not know how it happened, but the shape of the lower wings was totally wrong.
So after a few days of filing and sanding, I made an attempt on preshading for the CDP.
This does not seem the right way to go. :)
Anyway, I will see what a few layers of CDP Gunze will bring, there is always the option of starting the fourth try.
-
Ok now, as I was not happy at all about the latest version of the wings, I went for another attempt trying a method invented by a very good friend of mine who also builds 1:144 scale. He used this procedure while making a resin kit of "Pou du ciel".
It is as simple as it is effective - stretched sprues simulating wing ribs glued on a sanded plastic sheet with Tamiya extra thin.
With respect to the fact that this is the first attempt using this method, I have to say that it is a much smarter way than I applied before. The result is not perfect but seems to be a way to go in the future.
-
Looks promising so far ondra . :)

Here some progress on the wings:
Attempt on pre-shading on upper and lower surface:
-
And this is the result.
Not perfect but I can live with it. Now let's move on to the markings.
-
Your effect turned out pretty good , still hard to believe that this is 1/144 scale ..

Absolutely amazing work in such a tiny scale, Ondra. Fascinating build.
Cheers,
Ernie :)
-
I agree with terri, the work on the wings looks great!
Beautiful WIP , thanks!

I agree 100% ! Stunning work in such a TINY scale, or any scale for that matter!!

Hi everybody,
I am back with some progress.
The wings are finished.
-
And the rudder is in place as well with the iron crosses paintbrushed.
There will be a coat of satin varnish on the fuselage and I will have to correct several spots where the paint peeled off.
-
Beautiful, ondra, did you use something like masks to paint the crosses on the rudder in such a precise way?
-
Hi Andonio,
correct, a friend of mine has a plotter, so I drew the crosses in Corel and sent them to him. After like four days I received the masks and I have to say they are much better for this purpose than decals in this small scale.

Still looking just absolutely OUTSTANDING! Considering how much larger than life those photos are I am blown away by your work!

The fuselage is basically finished and coated with Vallejo Satin Varnish, now I will let it dry and afterwards I can start assembly.
Hope all parts will fit together. ;)
-
And here the port side:
-
Well, placing the fuselage struts into the right position was really difficult (the strut on the starboard side goes in between the second and third exhaust pipe) so I had to cheat a little bit.
It is not as clean as I would wish but I hope to be able to correct it.
Hope to post more progress soon.
Cheers
Ondra
P.S.: Sorry for the quality of the photos, my camera passed away...
-
I am still totally blown away by what you are achieving construction and finish wise in this scale!
RAGIII
-
You are displaying incredible skills Ondra working in and achieving the results you have displayed here, hard to believe that you are doing all this in a very very tiny 1:144 scale.

Thanks for the comments guys! The fit is not as good as I would have wished but hopefully I can deal with that.
I started preparing the wing struts, the colours are quite bright at this moment, let's see what wash will do about it.
Cheers

-
So, one side took me 3 hours, the result could be better but calculating of the length of the particular struts is really time consuming. At least everything fits quite well so far.
-
Well, upper wing is in position, eventually the fit was quite fine. Let's move to the undercarriage.
-
Basically finished, just a few details and afterwards I will post pics in the gallery.
Thank you all for your support and your encouraging comments during the build.
Cheers

Ondra I LOVE IT
my congratulations to your work and craftmanship!
This is really one of my favourite planes but it's hard to find on the market so sooner or later I will take inspiration from your WIP to try it myself!
Ciao!

I somehow missed the last update! What a beauty and then some! All in such a tiny scale Ican't even imagine how you did the work! Looking forward to your pics in the completed models section!!

Thank you for your nice comments, guys, they are highly appreciated!
The modell is finished now, here a picture to imagine what it looks like.
As soon as I have better photos she will appear in the gallery.

I love it!

Staggeringly impressive.
Do you model in 1/32 at all? With your skills, you could produce something special and very detailed indeed.

I love it!

I will admit that so far I have not found the right "passion" for larger scales and for plastic kits generally. The most enjoyable part of every build for me is looking for ways to create all parts from scratch. I am a weird guy indeed. :)
Nevertheless I have a WnW Fokker D.VII (Fok) at home, in the first step I will be collecting experience with plastic kits on some smaller pieces (I have built a Fokker E.III by Eduard in 1:72 and there are Albatros D.Va and Nieuport 23 in my stash). Once I have enough experience with these simpler kits, eventually I would like to build the WnW D.VII some day.
Just one more up-date, I started working on the terrain and accessories - the ladder and the wooden construction beneath the tail (sorry, I do not know what it is called english, can you advise, please) are just glued together, no paint so far.
-
Beautifully done ondra !
Terri
-
Thanks, T! ;)
The base plate is finished, unfortunately I have not managed to make photos of proper quality, perhaps I will be doing better tomorrow at the daylight.
So, just one photo to imagine.

Very Nice, are you sure it is 1/144, looks bigger a great compliment !!!!
