Hello!
Not much time for either modelling and visting forum lately...
In order to keep me sane I started this one some time ago...
It`ll be Brumowski`s red Albie with sworls and skulls.
The engine is Karaya`s AD 200 - the original engine from this kit is now in my Lloyd. I think it was not a good idea the original engine is a little bit smaller and it took some work to correct the resin one - camshaft etc.
The compass is scratchbuilt - I have produced two - one for Gotha and one for Albie.

A wonderfull engine and parts for the cockpit Filip.

Excellent start, Filip! The engine looks fantastic.
Cheers,
Bud

Really outstanding work on those tiny instruments Filip! I'll be following you along on this one, love the subject!
Cheers,
Lance
-
Thanks gentlemen for your most encouraging remarks! I have closed the fuselage, I`ll post the finished cockpit pics as soon as I spray her with primer. Thanks for looking!
-
Excellent work in a scale that is NOW TOO SMALL for me ::) Beautiful details!

Thanks RAGIII!!!
I`ve started to put the swirls decals. I`m going to use some chalks and oils to make get rid of that "artificial" look. I have my doubts concerning this scheme. The more I scrutinise the pics, the more convinced I am that this bird wasn`t red at all. From what I see in the pics, it seems that the swirls were painted over natural wood and linen surfaces...
But it looks more interesting the way it is now ;)

. . . Looks super cool!
What he said!
Cheers,

Goodness me, xmald, this is shaping up as an extraordinary piece of work.
Best wishes
Nigel
-
what a super cool scheme! Still I think it would have looked even better if it was wood and linen :)
Are those swirls decals?
Best regards,
Sasho
-
Wow "super cool" is exactly what I thought too...
-
Wow! Filip I have to join the chorus. That is a cool paint scheme! I am also
wondering if the swirls are paint or decals. It certainly is an attention grabber.
Great job, my friend. I look forward to more updates.
Cheers,
Ernie :)

Brilliant work: the interior details are truly very impressive. The markings are very unusual too - very striking. In all this is going to be a very interesting and unusual model.
-
Looking fantastic, Filip! Are the swirls from Print Scale?
Cheers,
Bud
-
Thanks very much for all your very kind comments!
The swirls are Printscale decals. I have a problem however - I ordered two sheets - and I got two swirls sets but they are different. Despite the fact that both are Brumowski Camo - one is with yellow swirls - the good one, the other one is printed on purple paper. At the begining I thought the colour of the paper is different but after I tried it, it turned out that the quality is pretty bad - decals exploded during contact with water. To make the matter worse the swirls are reddish - which makes them unusable for the purpose of my model. I e-mailed Printscale and I`m awaiting their response. I hope they will send me another "good" sheet or it will be necessary to buy another one hoping that it will be the same - yellow. The first sheet is pretty good in my opinion.

I agree if I have enough time in my life I will build another one with wood and linen finish ;)

Awesome work on the swirl decals! Looking absolutely beautiful!

Thanks!!!
In the meantime I called a number of stores to find out whether they have the Printscale decals I need and it turned out that it they have the sheets I perceive as incorrect :( I was also informed that trying to get in touch with Printscale is a rather futile effort. Therefore I finally managed to order the last good one sheet from a store in Czech Republic - I hope it will turn out to be OK and I will be able to finish the model.
At the moment I have the most of the model in decals. I will provide some pics after the weekend...

Love your shade of red xmald !

Hello again,
After my holidays in Greece I finally had some time to do modelling.
I have received 3 sets of the good swirls decals from Printscale - a good company indeed.
I`m trying to do some weathering but it`s really hard due to the colour.
This is what it looks like right now:

Filip great work on this kit.
Martin

Cheers! ;D
Red Baron, first I have ordered 2 sheets, from two different shops in Poland (after I realised that one isn`t enough I ordered the second one), they were different - one was just the same as yours - unusable and the second one was good. I e-mailed Printscale, because the good decals were unavailable in Poland and described the problem - they sent me the good decal sheet. Also they explained that after feedback from the modellers they corrected the colour.
-
Spectacular modelling, Filip!
-
Wow! That is a truly impressive piece of modelling. I am pleased for you that you managed to get the transfers sorted out - in your hands this is going to be truly superb.
-
Filip,
Looking great!
I really like the colour/marking scheme on this one.

Dave

Thanks for your support gentlemen!
I have managed to put it all together - so I can finally see those beautiful lines of Albie D.III. Not so much work left...

Thank God for decals , I wouldn't want to have to paint on those swirls on . She is fantastic so far and a scheme I haven't seen done on Eduards kit .

Thank you very much for your way too kind comments!
I`m kind of in a quandary cause I have doubts concerning the nose of the plane - the disc : a friend of mine pointed out that it should be in natural metal colour - he said that there used to be an oil cooler. I have also read, that it was just the back of the spinner (and its mounting plate). Anyway what is your opinion - should it be like it is now - painted the same as the rest of the plane OR should I paint it natural metal colour?
-
Hi!
I think it should be in oiled steel finish.
Btw how many decal sheets of swirls in total you used?
Thank you.
-
Cheers for your suggestion Pustota!
2 sheets is enough to complete the model with some spare swirls left...
-
Thank you, Filip.
-
Hello Filip:
This is really an interesting scheme! You are doing great work on this kit. The decalwork alone is exceptional! Looking forward to the next update.
Best
Mark
-
Thank you very much Mark!
The majority of rigging is completed. My Albie had a major accident in the meantime - wings, struts and all the plumbing went off as it hit my desk :-[
I took a deep breath and managed to repair it.
Not much work left: to carve a prop, ailerons, wheels and some more weathering.

You have done a magnificent job with the decal application Filip, it really makes it an extremely stunning model, and the propeller looks great, well done.

Beautiful work, Filip. The Alby is really an eye-catching model. Excellent
propeller, as well. :D

Can't say much other than BRILLIANT work on the scheme, decal application, and the prop! LOVELY!
RAGIII
-
Great job, man, the propeller is jaw-dropping.

Filip,
Your hand carved prop is excellent. As one who does his own as well I have to admire the quality of your effort. I count six laminations......what did you use for the stock? Is it plywood or did you do your own laminate? That is really great work, especially in 1:48 Scale which I know is a bit more difficult then the 1:32 I work in.
Cheers,
Lance

Lance, it is my own laminate, I use regular furniture veneer I don`t remember clearly its thickness but if you want I can measure it. I must admit making props is one of the most pleasant moments of every build.

Beautiful job on the prop !
