I've seen in photos showing something,( rope, bungie cord?) wrapped around the axle next to the wheels. What is it and what was it for?
Another photo question re: Fokker D.VII radiator cover..... some pics show the mesh painted black, others silverish grey. Which or both would be correct?

Bungee cord, and it functioned as the spring and shock absorber in the suspension. Simple but effective.
