Title: Accesorief for Mercedess DIII/IIIa 1:32 TaurusModels - I need a help
Post by: taurusmodels on May 05, 2014, 03:28:57 AM
Hi
I've just prepared "something" for Mercedes DIII/IIIa...

but I don't know how to name it : taps, cups... My English is rather poor ans each time I'm trying to name something by myself it's rather funny. I'd be really gratefull for Your help.
FOR FIRST PERSON who give me a name free set of this. I think I'll release this within a week or two.

Thanks and best regards, Lukasz

I believe that this might be an "Oil overflow pipe" as this is located on the same level with the rear oil tank of the engine.
More here:

...by the way exceptionall work as always, looking for the release date.

Can I make a suggestion though - they would be much easier to mount and stronger if you could mould a pin on the back such that you could just drill a hole in the cylinder and push the pin in.  :)
It does have a positioning pins :) Soon I'll show You ready product. So priming cups - Spyros wins!
Thanks for help - I was sure that it's some kind of tap :/

Best regards, Lukasz

Yes, we discussed this in my topic on the D.VII. Indeed priming cups. I made them from brass, but yours look really exquisite!!

For comparison:

These are my attempts at the priming cups. I didn't know what they were before, but Bo helped me to the correct name and function.

Here (http://forum.ww1aircraftmodels.com/index.php?topic=1288.msg22291#msg22291) I showed how I made them and with some other products of yours..

regards,
Ivo

They are called Zischhähnen, their purpose is most definitely for introducing neat fuel into the combustion chamber for starting purposes. Priming cups is an acceptable English term, but it is not a direct translation...

In automotive use they are known as priming cups. My 1915 Peugeot has them

Bo has it pointed out:
Early aircraft engines had brass valves on the cylinder head, which are in direct connection to the combustion chamber. During the start-up procedure to be opened in order to spin the engine without compression with the propeller more easily, which causes the typical hiss ("Zischen", in German language). Then some Benzin is instilled into the funnel-shaped pans at the taps, the propeller is again rotated through and then the valves are closed. The Benzin in the combustion chamber makes it easier to start, now.

The correct German-word is "Zischhahn".
This is a single-word.
The majority is "Zischhähne".

@Lucasz:
Outstanding work, realy outstanding work!!
I will order a minimum of 4 Set's immediately, when these "Zischhähne" are on the market.  8)
